Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for current and future positions for Associate Research Administrator Pre-Award, Research Administrator Pre-Award, and Senior Research Administrator Pre-Award.

Research is a vital mission of the University of Nevada, Reno. The primary responsibilities of the Research Administrators will be assisting and serving faculty and staff in seeking and managing sponsored funding for research, service projects, and other creative activities.

The Research Administrators are responsible for ensuring programmatic and fiscal accountability for stewardship of public funds.

The Associate Research Administrators, Research Administrators and Senior Research Administrators report to the Research Administration Manager.

Associate Research Administrator Pre-Award

The Associate Research Administrator will assist faculty with proposal review and processing of Requests for Proposal (RFP) to determine sponsor regulatory requirements, proposal submission methods, certifications, and terms with review by supervisor and / or senior staff.

The Associate Research Administrator prepares a limited range of grant and contract proposal correspondence and follow-up information with review by supervisor and / or senior staff.

This position maintains a limited range of systems for proposal and award management of grants and contracts (i.e., InfoEd, National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) email boxes, rejections of proposals, grant system updates) with review by supervisor and / or senior staff.

Some principal investigator and sponsor communication is required.

Research Administrator Pre-Award

The Research Administrator will serve as a point of contact for liaison between the University and federal agencies, foundations, private industry, state, and local agencies.

The Research Administrator assists faculty with proposal review and processing of Requests for Proposals (RFP) to determine sponsor regulatory requirements, proposal submission methods, certifications, and terms.

This position completes the initial review of proposals prior to reception of award and signature. This position may be responsible for approval of proposals without further review.

This position is responsible for pre-and-post-award sponsor communications and requests.

Senior Research Administrator Pre-Award

The Senior Research Administrator will perform all duties of the Research Administrator at expert level. The Senior Research Administrator will serve as a team lead administrator.

This position works collaboratively with the Manager or Research Administration to provide training, instruction, and guidance in a full range of extramural support to pre-award staff.

This position will be a primary resource for pre-award staff and campus and will assist in workflow management.

Required Qualifications

Associate Research Administrator Pre-Award

Bachelor’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience OR

Master’s Degree and no work experience required.

Related Experience : In administration or research compliance or related.

Research Administrator Pre-Award

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR

Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience

Related experience : In administration or research compliance or related.

Senior Research Administrator Pre-Award

Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience OR

Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience

Related Experience : In administration or research compliance with supervision experience or related.

Schedule or Travel Requirements

Occasional overnight travel for conferences

Compensation Grade

Associate Research Administrator Pre-Award Compensation Grade A

Research Administrator Pre-Award Compensation Grade B

Senior Research Administrator Pre-Award Compensation Grade C
