Job description

Luna Data Solutions has an immediate contract position opening (contract term approximately 6 months, with possible extension) for a SharePoint Administrator resource with our public sector industry client located in Austin, TX.

  • This is a hybrid role in which this resource must work onsite THREE days / week; the specific in-office days will be determined in coordination with your manager.

Role : SharePoint Administrator

Role Description :

A SharePoint Online Migration Administrator plans, executes, and oversees the transfer of content, data, and workflows from an existing SharePoint 2016 (on-premise) environment to SharePoint Online and other Microsoft 365 platforms. The role requires both strong technical knowledge and excellent communication skills to coordinate with stakeholders and ensure a seamless, non-disruptive migration.

Key Activities / Responsibilities :

  • Assess the current data landscape by running pre-migration reports to profile existing content, usage, and permissions.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements, document business processes, and understand content migration needs.
  • Analyze existing legacy workflows, customizations, and integrations to determine a migration strategy for each.
  • Develop and document a detailed migration plan, including information architecture, taxonomy, timelines, and testing procedures.
  • Use migration tools, including but not limited to Microsoft's SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT), or Metalogix, to execute migrations.
  • Schedule and perform the migration of content, sites, lists, and files to Microsoft 365 services like SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive.
  • Manage and execute migration tasks, including provisioning new sites and ensuring correct permissions and administrative settings are applied.
  • Run post-migration reports to analyze results and identify any errors, issues, or skipped items.
  • Perform quality assurance (QA) and user acceptance testing (UAT) to validate data integrity, functionality, and user experience.
  • Troubleshoot and remediate errors, collaborating with technical teams and site owners as needed.
  • Develop training materials and user guides to support the adoption of the new SharePoint Online environment.
  • Provide end-user training and support to facilitate the transition to the new platform.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a SharePoint Online governance model, including guidelines and best practices.
  • Work with site owners to guide them in content preparation, such as data cleansing and content standardization, before migration.
  • Coordinate or oversee complex issues or incidents and solving problems.
  • Assist in reviewing and providing recommendations to enterprise-wide hardware and software standards.
  • Assist in analyzing and defining agency disaster recovery procedures as related to the role.
  • Adding users, controlling access to document libraries, and setting permissions.
  • Communicates respectfully and works harmoniously with all co-workers, customers and vendors.

    Qualifications :

    Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

    Minimum of 3–5 years of experience administering and migrating SharePoint environments (including SharePoint Online and / or SharePoint Server).

    Proven experience with Microsoft 365 services (e.g., SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive).

    Experience with content migration tools such as SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT), Metalogix, ShareGate, or similar.

    Familiarity with legacy SharePoint versions (e.g., 2010, 2013, 2016) and understanding of upgrade paths.

    Strong understanding of SharePoint architecture, site collections, content types, lists, libraries, permissions, and workflows.

    Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for SharePoint and Microsoft 365 administration tasks.

    Experience with managing permissions, security groups, and site provisioning.

    Knowledge of Microsoft 365 compliance and governance features (e.g., retention policies, sensitivity labels).

    Experience with third-party tools and integrations commonly used with SharePoint and Microsoft 365.

    Basic understanding of Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, PowerApps) for workflows and automation.
