Position Title : Teaching and Learning Specialist / Coach, Special Education
Reports To : Director of Student Programs
Supervises : None
Qualifications :
- Hold or be eligible for an Oklahoma teaching certificate with a Special Education endorsement.
- Have a Master’s degree (preferred).
- Have a minimum of three years of special education teaching experience.
- Satisfy all district requirements regarding physical health and citizenship.
- Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Position Goals :
- To strengthen teaching and learning for students in special education, assuring consistency and coherence across the district and communication of district expectations / practices.
- To serve as a mentor and guide for special education teachers through coaching, modeling research-based practices, and professional learning collaborations.
- To serve as a resource for gathering, assimilating, and disseminating instructional materials for special education.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
Instructional Leadership
- Coach special education staff in implementation of curricular supports and tools.
- Plan, facilitate, co-facilitate, and / or participate in instructional meetings e.g., regular planning meetings with district TLSs, special education staff, data teams, late-start collaborations, and professional learning community studies.
- Meet with district leaders, TLSs, special education staff, and site special education coordinators on a regular basis for communication and planning.
- Model evidence based instructional practices.
- Collaborate with site educational teams to refine instructional support and approaches to meet individual learner needs.
- Collaborate with the district SPED team to ensure coordination of support and training meet student and teacher needs.
Professional Learning
- Implement instructional coaching to model / provide support for special education research-based instructional practices and classroom management strategies.
- Coach and support new special education teachers through the beginning years of their teaching at Jenks Public Schools.
- Assist in the development / implementation of district special education professional development plans / processes.
Curriculum Development and Support
- Serve on district curriculum committees.
- Implement district curriculum adoptions / programs for special education classrooms.
- Participate in summer curriculum development when necessary.
- Ensure district resources are maintained and stored efficiently; coordinate materials purchases and dissemination.
- Participate in out-of-district learning communities.
Student Services
- Attend IEP meetings and student / parent conferences when necessary, to provide input regarding appropriate curriculum and / or instructional best practices.
- Support the development of a tiered academic and behavior plans.
Assessment
- Support and model formative and summative assessment best practices.
- Facilitate the special education assessment process (DLM).
Other
Perform such other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
Terms of Employment : Teacher (182 days) contract and extra duty contract for ten (10) days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
Benefits as established by Board policy.
