Job Description

Queens University of Charlotte’s Athletics is an NCAA Division I program distinguished by its commitment to transforming the lives of its students and consistently competing at the highest possible levels.

Former graduate assistants (GA) and interns have used their learning and practicing experiences with the Royals to land jobs with organizations such as the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hornets, USA Triathlon, USA Swimming, and Ally to name a few.

This is a 12-month, up to 20 hours / week renewable internship that reports directly to the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing, Ticketing, and Sponsorships.

The successful candidate must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at Queens University of Charlotte. There is no expressed or implied commitment to a paid position upon completion of the internship.

This role is eligible for tuition remission for up to three courses per semester (that you are actively working as a Graduate Assistant) and a stipend. No housing is offered.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is a great opportunity to enhance an individual’s skillset across multiple areas, including marketing, ticketing, and sponsorships.

The graduate assistant for these areas will learn and practice how to assist the Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing, Ticketing, and Strategic Partnerships with strategic methods of planning, organizing, communicating, and executing Queens athletic events.

Areas Learning and Application :

  • Learn and practice all facets of game-day event planning and implementation.
  • Learn and practice pre-event planning and advertising.
  • Learn and practice event preparation including marketing set up and tear down, constructing game day scripts.
  • Learn and practice the role of ticket sales for athletic and university ticketed events.
  • Learn and practice generating leads of potential athletic sponsors.
  • Learn and practice constructing sponsorship proposals and PowerPoints for current and / or future clients.
  • Learn and practice greeting sponsors via email, telephone, and / or face-to-face

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, business, sport management or related area of study
  • Must be a current, full-time graduate student at Queens University of Charlotte
  • Strong communication, planning, event management, organization, and writing skills.
  • Strong follow up skills as well as plan, organize and control projects to completion.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and exceptional verbal and written communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and prior work experience in intercollegiate athletics
  • Previous experience with marketing, event operations and / or sponsorship activation roles
  • Knowledge of Daktronics software system (will be required to learn and practice during early training)
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop (will be required to learn and practice during early training)

Work Conditions

  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to meet requirements of the internship, including early mornings, nights, and weekends.
  • Must be able to learn and work in office and athletics environment while having contact with students, staff, faculty, parents, service providers and vendors on any given day.
  • This internship has deadlines, multiple interruptions, and can be stressful.
