Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, mission-aligned Payroll Specialist to join our Human Resources Team.
The Payroll Specialist will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone : break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to join HCZ’s dynamic and fast-paced Human Resources Department. The Payroll Accountant administers payroll for all HCZ staff and programs and supports the administration of transit policies, pension plans, bonuses, garnishments and other payroll-related subjects.

Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Multi-state payroll experience required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS systems, or similar software.

Review time sheets, wage computation, and other information to detect and reconcile payroll discrepanciesProcess paperwork for new employees and enter employee information into the payroll systemEnsure correct information is posted onto designated recordsProcess garnishments and transportation deductionsCompute wages and deductions, and enter data electronicallyRecord employee information, such as exemptions, transfers, and garnishments, to ensure payroll records are maintained and updatedAdminister and issue employee paychecks and statements of earnings and deductionsCompile employee time, production, and payroll data from electronic sign in, time sheets and other recordsIssue and record adjustments to pay related to previous errors or retroactive increasesProvide superior customer service skills, demonstrating courtesy and tactPerform other duties as assignedSchedule
