Job description

Are you ready to be part of a company that's not just talking about the future, but actively shaping it? Join The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), a Fortune 500 company that's leading the charge in the global energy revolution. With operations spanning 14 countries, AES is committed to shaping a future through innovation and collaboration. Our dedication to innovation has earned us recognition as one of the Top Ten Best Workplaces for Innovators by Fast Company in 2022. And with our certification as a Great Place to Work, you can be confident that you're joining a company that values its people just as much as its groundbreaking ideas.

AES is proudly ranked #1 globally in renewable energy sales to corporations, and with $12.7B in revenues in 2023, we have the resources and expertise to make a significant impact as we provide electricity to 25 million customers worldwide. As the world moves towards a net-zero future, AES is committed to meeting the Paris Agreement's goals by 2050. Our innovative solutions, such as 24/7 carbon-free energy for data centers, are setting the pace for rapid, global decarbonization.

If you're ready to be part of a company that's not just adapting to change, but driving it, AES is the place for you. We're not just building a cleaner, more sustainable future - we're powering it. Apply now and energize your career with a true leader in the global energy transformation.

Position Summary

The Project Developer leads the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects within the CAISO market, including solar, storage, and hybrid projects. This role owns project execution from early-stage development through late-stage readiness for Notice to Proceed (NTP), coordinating cross-functional teams and driving projects through key milestones.

The Developer serves as the central point of accountability (‘quarterback’) for project success, ensuring alignment across interconnection, permitting, land, engineering, and commercial workstreams while navigating the complexities of the CAISO market.

Key Responsibilities

Project Development Leadership

- Lead development of renewable energy projects across CAISO from site selection to execution readiness

- Drive advancement through key milestones including site control, interconnection queue progression, permitting approvals, and commercial structuring

Project Management & Execution

- Develop and manage integrated project schedules, budgets, and risk registers

- Track milestones and proactively adjust plans to maintain timelines

Cross-Functional Coordination

- Coordinate inputs across interconnection, land, permitting, engineering, environmental, and commercial teams

- Integrate SME inputs into cohesive development strategies

Risk Management & Decision-Making

- Identify and manage risks related to CAISO interconnection, permitting, land constraints, and market considerations

- Lead tradeoff discussions and recommend solutions to advance projects

Stakeholder Engagement

- Lead engagement with landowners, utilities, CAISO stakeholders, permitting agencies, and consultants

- Represent AES in project meetings and negotiations

Qualifications

Required:

- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, environmental studies, or related field

- 4–7 years of experience in renewable energy development or related field

- Strong understanding of interconnection, permitting, land, and project development processes

Preferred:

- Experience with CAISO interconnection and California permitting processes

- Experience developing solar, storage, or hybrid projects in CAISO

Key Competencies

- Project Ownership and Accountability

- Strategic Thinking and Decision-Making

- Cross-Functional Leadership

- Communication and Stakeholder Management

- Execution Excellence

Scope & Accountability

- Owns end-to-end project development outcomes within CAISO portfolio

- Acts as central coordinator of all project activities and decisions

- Operates with moderate independence, escalating critical issues as needed
