CEI Roadway Inspector

S&ME is currently seeking dedicated full-time CEI Roadway Inspectors to join our dynamic Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in Raleigh-Durham area , including Chapel Hill, Sanford, Benson, Smithfield, Goldsboro, Wake Forest, Louisburg, Henderson and more).

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant transportation projects, ensuring their successful completion.

Inspectors can reside anywhere within an hour of the project site and will have access to a company vehicle to report directly to the site.

Your Day-to-Day :

As a CEI Roadway Inspector, you will perform essential technical duties associated with the oversight, administration, and inspection of transportation projects.

These projects include roadway, bridge, rail, pedestrian, port, and aviation works. Your role is crucial in determining the contractor's compliance with the contract, plans, and specifications.

You will work in both indoor and outdoor environments, experiencing various weather and field conditions. This role may require extended hours, including weekends and holidays.

Inspection and Oversight :

Observe and inspect various contractor operations such as clearing and grubbing, earthmoving, paving, bridge construction, and traffic control.

Ensure compliance with plans and permits.

Documentation and Reporting :

Prepare material reports, daily diaries, and field books for contractor payment documentation. Maintain accurate and detailed project records.

Technical Tasks :

Perform materials sampling and testing, verify line and grade with survey equipment, and conduct necessary calculations and computations.

Compliance Checks :

Conduct DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) and EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) compliance surveys. Inspect erosion control devices to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Communication and Coordination :

Attend meetings, interact with third-party construction personnel, and collaborate with higher-level technical and professional staff for project reviews.

Pay rate is based on the level of experience. Additional incentives are available for existing applicable certifications.

What You Bring :

  • You have ONE of the following :
  • High school diploma / GED required and 4+ years of highway-related construction or inspection experience
  • 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with 2+ years of highway-related construction experience
  • You have at least TWO of the following NCDOT-based certifications :
  • NCDOT QMS Roadway Certification
  • NCDOT Conventional Density Certification
  • NCDOT Concrete Field Technician Certification
  • NCDOT Erosion Control Level II
  • NCDOT Nuclear Gauge Certification
  • You have strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • You have the ability to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device
  • You have good math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
