Key Responsibilities
As an Aviation Law Enforcement Pilot, you will engage in law enforcement aviation operations to detect, prevent, and interdict potential threats such as terrorists and illegal contraband from entering the United States. Your typical duties will include:
- Conducting aerial patrols, surveillance, and active pursuit of vehicles, aircraft, or vessels involved in illegal activities.
- Monitoring and analyzing behaviors and activities of suspicious individuals or entities.
- Gathering and evaluating strategic intelligence to inform decision-making.
- Participating in search and rescue and humanitarian missions as needed.
Salary and Benefits
Begin your journey as an Aviation Law Enforcement Pilot with a competitive salary ranging from $85,270 to $110,846 per year, determined by your qualifications at the GS-11 grade level, with additional compensation based on your duty location.
Incentives: New recruits may qualify for a one-time Recruitment Incentive of $10,000 after completing the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy (FLETC), subject to a one-year service agreement.
Your initial salary will also comprise Special Salary Rate (SSR), Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP), and potential Retention Incentives.
This career ladder position offers advancements through GS-11, GS-12, and GS-13, with eligibility for promotions to higher levels following successful performance at each grade.
Qualifications
Experience: To qualify for the GS-11 level, candidates should have at least one year of specialized aviation experience, including:
- Operating as a Pilot-in-Command in various flying conditions, including night flying and adverse weather.
- Quickly evaluating in-flight information and making critical decisions.
- Coordinating multiple aircraft and ground resources efficiently.
- Managing information systems for operational reporting and data dissemination.
Required Certifications:
- A current FAA Commercial or ATP Pilot Certification with appropriate ratings.
Flight Hours Required: Minimum of 1500 flight hours required at entry (up to 500 hours may be waived). Specific hour breakdowns must be met regarding Pilot-in-Command flights, instrument hours, and night flights.
Other Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Residents of the U.S. for at least three of the last five years.
- Applicants must be under 40 years of age at the time of appointment.
