Job Description

About Company :

Betty Jean Kerr People’s Health Centers provides quality health care and social services to thousands of uninsured and medically underserved. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for all residents of the community by providing healthcare that is comprehensive, equitable and trauma informed, including primary care, dental and behavioral health services rooted in compassion, hope, dignity, and cultural competency. PHC is committed to serving the impoverished, uninsured populations in St. Louis and St Louis County communities. With three (3) conveniently located health centers, three (3) behavioral health sites and a friendly welcoming staff, PHC aspires to serve all the health care and wellness needs of the entire family.

About the Role :

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care within the Health Care and Social Assistance industry. This position involves providing direct nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and well-being. The LPN will be responsible for monitoring patient health, administering medications, and assisting with medical procedures while maintaining accurate and detailed patient records. This role requires strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and provide compassionate support to patients and their families. Ultimately, the LPN contributes to the overall success of the healthcare facility by promoting positive patient outcomes and adhering to established clinical protocols and standards.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Current and valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Missouri.
  • Completion of an accredited practical nursing program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience working in a community health or outpatient care setting.
  • Additional certifications such as IV therapy or wound care.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Bilingual abilities to support diverse patient populations.
  • Responsibilities :

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients, including administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Monitor and record patients' vital signs, symptoms, and progress, reporting any changes to the supervising nurse or physician.
  • Assist with patient hygiene, mobility, and daily living activities to ensure comfort and dignity.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families on health maintenance, disease prevention, and post-treatment care.
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment by following infection control protocols and safety procedures.
  • Skills :

The LPN utilizes clinical nursing skills daily to assess patient conditions, administer medications, and provide essential care that supports recovery and health maintenance. Effective communication skills are critical for coordinating with healthcare professionals and educating patients and families about treatment plans and health management. Attention to detail ensures accurate documentation and adherence to safety and infection control standards, which are vital for patient safety and regulatory compliance. Organizational skills help manage multiple patient needs efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Preferred skills such as proficiency with electronic health records and additional certifications enhance the LPN's ability to deliver specialized care and improve overall patient outcomes.
