Job description

Project Manager-Construction (Capital Construction)

Under direction, is responsible for planning, coordinating and managing construction projects and related programs of a complex and technical nature. Is fully accountable for the success of projects as measured by user satisfaction, meeting budget and schedule requirements. Professional range of work may include architecture, landscape architecture, civil, electrical, mechanical and structural engineering, interior design, facilities analysis, and construction administration. Performs related duties as required.

Supervises the work of a group of professionals.

Provides professional management in areas such as administration, planning, scheduling, negotiating, construction contract administration, construction management, and staff coordination.

Formulates and modifies program objectives and procedures.

Promotes and creates open, clear and concise communications among all stakeholders.

Defines and manages the scope of work, budget and scheduling.

Acts as liaison between technical staff, operations/users, other operating departments, contractors and agencies to ensure the coordination of project/program related activities.

Identifies conflict issues and negotiates resolutions.

Reviews design and construction documents for completeness and compliance with applicable guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Maintains project schedules and related project records and documentation.

Prepares financial and programmatic reports to summarize the status of related activities.

Oversees the preparation of design services proposals, change orders and other related documents.

Evaluates proposed projects/programs and determines the nature of work to be performed and methods to be employed.

Evaluates the performance of consultants, vendors, and contractors.

Participates in long-range planning and recommends appropriate courses of action.

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Construction Project Management, or a related field, plus five years of professional project management experience involving the oversight of project teams, consultants, contractors, or skilled trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Illinois driver's license is required.

At least five years of professional construction project management experience.

At least one year of experience managing two or more construction projects concurrently.

Experience managing at least one construction project through all phases, from inception through final acceptance and closeout.

Professional knowledge of project management and construction management principles.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite.

General knowledge of applicable construction codes and regulatory requirements.

Ability to prioritize tasks to effectively accomplish the workload.

Ability to lead, direct, coordinate, motivate and supervise professional and para-professional teams.

Ability to manage multiple construction projects concurrently within established budgets and schedules.

Budgeting, scheduling and administrative skills.

Strong oral, graphic, written communication and public presentation skills.

Excellent judgment.
