Position Overview :

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Controller with strong accounting skills and specific experience within a paid media agency and / or marketing firm.  Prior public accounting experience a plus. The ideal candidate will be seasoned yet willing to handle hands-on tasks required to support the Paid Media team, budget analysis, and financial reporting, while contributing to the broader financial strategy and operational growth of the company.

Key Responsibilities :

Accounting & Financial Management :

Responsible for financial reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.

Need someone with strong foundation in accounting, not finance person who is more analytical.

Perform daily accounting functions, including journal entries, a / p, a / r,  account reconciliations, campaign WIP, revenue recognition and month-end close.

Manage reconciliation of planned, purchased, and actual media spend. Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of media expenditures to match against forecasts and client budgets.

Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, and forecasts to provide strategic insights for overall business.

Manage cash flow, financial controls, and audits, ensuring accuracy and transparency in all financial activities.

Work with Tax Professionals for quarterly and year-end tax estimates, year-end tax returns and   state tax compliance.

Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to support the agency’s growth.

Paid Media Agency Experience :

Deep understanding of the financial processes within a paid media agency, including media buying, vendor invoicing, and revenue recognition for media campaigns.

Maintain excellent accounting practices to ensure financial accuracy for media audits and internal review processes. This includes tracking media vendor payments, media placements, and discrepancies between planned and actual media delivery.

Prepare and reconcile month-end media spend reports, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting that can be used for auditing and invoicing.

Collaborate with the media team to forecast, monitor, and analyze media budgets, ensuring financial integrity throughout the entire campaign lifecycle.

Ensure all media transactions are properly documented and recorded in the general ledger, supporting both financial accuracy and compliance with auditing standards.

Provide financial oversight and insights into media campaign performance, helping to maintain strong profitability and alignment with overall business goals.

Qualifications (Must Haves in Bold)

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (strong focus on accounting), CPA or CMA a plus.

5-10+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a paid media,  marketing firm or public accounting.

1st preference is for Media and Marketing Background.

2nd preference is for Public Accounting background on Audit.

3rd they will look at people without that experience as long as they are strong working with revenue recognition and have worked with sales contracts and service agreements. (Think Engineering and Construction).

Personality : Outgoing. Extroverted personality is important for their culture.

Proficiency in accounting software ( QuickBooks is a must have , NetSuite) and hands-on experience with platforms and financial reports.

Proficient with Microsoft products.

Experience with other platforms; Dataroma, Media Ocean, Strata, Bionic, Monday.com preferred.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop financial strategies aligned with business goals.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.

A growth mindset and willingness to be hands-on while contributing to high-level financial strategy. This person has be process improvement minded and have an entrepreneurial spirit. They need to be ok being in the weeds until the company gets bigger. They will help build the accounting team.

Why Open :   Newly created role with growth of company.  The CFO is working 80 hours a week right now.

Other Methods to Fill :   We have exclusivity and their only source right now, including internally.

Pay :   $120K to $130K (If they can hit the ground running). If they don’t have strong Media or Marketing experience will be lower. Will also look at a Senior Accountant she can train and develop ($80K to $100K). (Currently no bonus, but that will change based on company net revenue targets).
