ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICE PROGRAMS :
The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) creates and coordinates services that enhance the quality of life for Cambridge residents. Driven by the needs of residents, DHSP's extensive services and programs touch almost every sector in the city : from newborns to senior citizens, from school-aged children to homeless families, from non-profit organizations to local employers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Share mastery level of an art form with students for enrichment afterschool classes
- Be responsible for the overall management of your assigned afterschool enrichment class.
- Work with program assistants that may be assigned to the classroom.
- Develop and implement a quality age-appropriate curriculum in a specialty area
- Directly supervise the safety of children
- Help create an environment that fosters a positive self-image and respects the social and cultural differences of each child and values each child's strengths, needs, differences, and similarities.
- Maintain an open, friendly, on-going communication with families about the progress of participants
- Responsible for classroom maintenance, equipment, and supplies
- Communicate any needed supplies for programming 1 month in advance
- Report any out-of-the-ordinary incidents and accidents to program administrators.
- Check in and out with Director or Program Director daily for open communication concerning children's progress and any concerns that may arise.
