POSITION SUMMARY
A Director of Development at USF will participate as a team member of the University of Sioux Falls Institutional Advancement Office, reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Each Director of Development is expected to manage a portfolio of between 125 and 150 qualified major and planned gift prospects by building relationships from prospect identification through meaningful and timely cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The successful candidate will be a person committed to the Christian mission of the University of Sioux Falls.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS
Each responsibility listed is important to the successful performance of this job. However, this job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, or efforts associated with this position. The supervisor or designee may assign additional job-related tasks or special projects. Travel is an important aspect of the position to support personal, face-to-face visits with prospects and donors. Occasional evenings and weekends will be involved.
- Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major and planned gift prospects in support of the University of Sioux Falls (USF) by matching and advancing the college’s fund-raising priorities with prospective donors’ interests for unrestricted and restricted support.
- Manage a portfolio of 125-150 prospects; develop and document written cultivation and solicitation strategies and proposals, purposefully guide them to major investments in USF, and develop relationships to maximize their giving potential over time.
- Meet explicit performance objectives, including the completion of personal face-to-face visits (meaningful, strategic, personal interactions) with assigned prospects each month.
- Assist with cultivation activities and solicitations with other USF representatives, including the President, USF staff, advancement professionals, key faculty, alumni, and volunteers.
- Work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations staff, and other USF faculty and staff to cultivate and solicit donors for college-wide priorities.
- Maintain written strategic cultivation plans for a focus group of assigned prospects scheduled for solicitation within the coming 18-24 month period. Plans will project gift amount and purpose as well as a step-by-step plan for cultivation with a cultivation schedule.
- Provide timely, written reports regarding the outcome of cultivation and solicitation actions in the form of contact reports, stage updates, and strategy statement updates and revisions on Raiser’s Edge.
- Participate in the prospect tracking and management process in alignment with established procedures and protocols through reporting on results, calendar plans, documentation of strategies, and participation in prospect-focused meetings.
- Develop succinct, strategic briefing materials to support the work of college leaders and partners in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts associated with prospects and donors.
- Assist with the development and coordination necessary for the cultivation of major gifts.
- Travel extensively and consistently to fulfill these duties, given the college's location and the geographic diversity and distribution of its alumni, donors, prospects, and volunteers.
- Complies with all USF policies and regulations, and also with outside agencies' policies and regulations, including but not limited to Title IX, NCAA, NSIC, Department of Education, Clery Act, FERPA, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Justice.
