Definition :

Perform responsible administrative accounting duties involved in the maintenance of financial or

statistical records for the City's accounting system Tyler Munis. Primary duties involve record

keeping, data entry, and customer service related to the preparation and processing of the City's

payroll.

Principal Duties :

  • Prepare payroll records for data entry in a timely manner. Enter and verify time sheets

for accuracy. Balance hours and make corrections and adjustments.

  • Process payroll on a computerized payroll system.
  • Process and assist with expediting Personnel Action Forms to ensure appropriate
  • employee compensation.

  • Process a variety of payments, including longevity pay, retroactive pay, retirement,
  • termination pay, and sick leave conversion.

  • Verify and process alternative duty and injury leave
  • Calculate and process individual exception requests to normal payroll processing.
  • Calculate, process and track garnishment orders
  • Process requests for donated leave and donations
  • Check documents for proper coding, classification, mathematical accuracy, and
  • compliance with procedures.

  • Maintain and update files of accounting / payroll related documents.
  • Research records and provide data from information on file.
  • Post, add, compute, compare, and file a variety of financial accounting and statistical
  • information.

  • Prepare routine reports and compose routine correspondence.
  • Prepare annual data for pension actuary
  • Working Environment :

    Work is performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods of

    time, and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs.). Job requires visual and physical capabilities to

    perform data entry, filing, and to work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged

    periods of time (4-6 hours daily). Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and

    the public, work includes extensive public contact both over the phone and in person. Work

    requires working closely with others and alone. Must be able to recognize and correct

    discrepancies in records and documents, and perform duties under time constraints.

    Qualifications :

    At least three years of increasingly responsible financial record keeping work related to

    accounting / payroll functions. Special Qualifications : Knowledge of Tyler Munis Software is

    preferred.
