To implement and manage programs, policies, and procedures pertaining to sustainable forestry certification for all U.S., Canadian, and South American operations where applicable.
In this position you will have the opportunity to :
Work closely with and support Director, Sustainability & Public Policy to achieve LP’s sustainability goals and public policy objectives.
Represent LP at external public policy meetings with key stakeholders and work with industry associations to develop action-oriented business recommendations based on policy research. Monitor federal and regional draft legislation and assess impact to LP. Connect with LP Subject Matter Experts and escalate as needed.
Responsible for SFI and PEFC conformance. Plan and lead LP third party certification efforts across the U.S, Canada & South America.
Oversee and participate in internal and external audits. Help develop evaluations and any corrective actions pertaining to the company’s sustainable forestry practices at all forestry locations. Oversee the forestry research and partnership program requirements regarding sustainable forestry are met and the results and learnings of those investments are transferred throughout the forestry organization as needed.
Complete and submit the SFI annual progress report and support other environmental reporting (SASB, CDP, etc.) processes throughout the year.
Provide sustainable forestry program guidance and support to Plant Forestry Managers and all other staff within LP’s Forest Resources Department in the U.S, Canada & South America.
Support the Director, Sustainability & Public Policy to assure the corporation is well represented and has input into potential changes in forest certification and labeling programs, and to assure any concerns are appropriately communicated throughout the corporation.
Work with Corporate Communications, Sales & Marketing, Legal regarding corporate statements associated with sustainability and forest resource environmental claims.
What do I need to be successful?
5 years of public policy or forest management experience or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
Working knowledge of Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) trends and practices
Knowledge of laws, governmental proceedings, and best management practices governing forestry and / or natural resources in Canada and the U.S
Demonstrated knowledge of current sustainable forestry and best management practices
Ability to operate a computer and supporting software
Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills essential.
Ability to work cooperatively with all levels of LP staff, including Corporate Communications, Sales and Marketing, Segment Business Partners
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred
Education
Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, political science, economics, environmental, forestry or natural resources related field highly preferred
Work Environment
This position will be remote, working in a home office environment. Open to US or Canada applicants.
Travel : up to 30% of time depending on need, including international travel
