ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The GIS Specialist is located in Salt Lake City, UT and typically reports directly to the Department Supervisor.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Create and manage utility data for customers including but not limited to municipalities and utility service providers
  • Utilize survey data to generate plans and maps.
  • Perform QA / QC on incoming data and outgoing deliverables to ensure a complete and accurate product.
  • Take lead on new GIS initiatives and provide related support to coworkers and clients.
  • Participate in the acquisition of on-site field data to accomplish the design or to monitor and evaluate equipment performance.
  • Perform tasks such as digitizing, copying and scanning of drawings, prints and maps.
  • Follow quality practice and procedures by self-checking all work product and checking the work of others as required.
  • Follow safety procedures.
  • Perform and update records in ArcPro and ArcGIS Online.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Individuals holding or pursuing a Bachelor’s in Geography, GIS, or a related discipline will be preferred.
  • Certification in any of the following areas will also increase consideration : Data Science
  • Geomatics
  • GIS
  • Individuals with experience in electrical distribution systems or telecommunication will be preferred.
  • WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    Proficient knowledge and understanding of :

  • Field collection and coordination management
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS ESRI Mobile Apps preferred
  • Understanding of Geodatabases and use of Microsoft Excel
  • Motivated individual with a knack for technology based solutions for problem solving
