Job descriptionGraduation from a standard high school or vocational school or successful completion of a high school equivalency exam; or any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of this position. At least one (1) year working experience as an automotive technician. Ability to troubleshoot using computers, scanners, and electrical meters. Must have diesel engine and heavy equipment repair experience. Ability to perform all the physical and cognitive tasks outlined in the job description. Operate all motor vehicles and equipment owned by the airport. Operate small equipment and hand and power tools. Operate a computer keyboard. Lift up to 100 pounds. Obtain and / or maintain Commercial Driver’s License (Class B with air brakes and public passenger endorsement) required by end of probationary period. Climb ladders and stairs. Walk, crawl, sit, stand, stoop, bend, squat, push, pull, stretch. See, hear, talk, write. Have full physical dexterity and agility. Eye / hand coordination. Operate airport radio. Operate machinery. Read and comprehend. Comprehend, retain, and follow oral and written instructions. Continue technical training. Problem solve. Inspect. Effectively communicate over the radio. Exercise good judgment. GENERAL SUMMARY
It is the responsibility of the Automotive and Heavy Equipment Technician to perform both minor and major repairs on all IAA owned vehicles and equipment. Vehicles include but are not limited to fire trucks, snow removal vehicles, construction equipment, police cars, passenger shuttle buses (electric and diesel), tractors, mowing equipment, dump trucks, light-duty trucks, and passenger vehicles (gas and hybrid). It is also the responsibility of this position to perform welding and cutting functions at all facilities of the IAA. Must participate in snow removal activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform preventive maintenance on all gasoline, diesel, electric, and natural gas-powered equipment operated by the airport at all its facilities.
- Perform minor and major repair work on all equipment operated by the airport at all its facilities.
- Maintain and repair the auxiliary generators at all the airport’s facilities.
- Operate the wrecker and service truck with crane.
- Report unusual security situations to the Safety Departments.
- Perform any other functions assigned.
- On call from November through March for snow removal duties as required.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions and troubleshooting breakdowns.
- Contains cost by evaluating service and parts options.
- Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.
- Accomplishes maintenance and organizational mission by completing related results as needed.
- Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturers' performance specifications.
- Perform computer diagnostic and repair.
- Troubleshoot and repair electronic control circuits.
- Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot, from wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Ability to weld and fabricate metal.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems and read hydraulic schematics.
- EPA certification for dispensing refrigerants.
- Troubleshoot and repair air-conditioning systems.
- Additional tasks, as assigned
