Job type
  • Permanent, Full-time
Job description

Step into a key quality role with a precision aerospace manufacturer where your expertise in CMM programming and operation directly safeguards flight‑critical components. You’ll work with advanced inspection technology, tight tolerances, and complex geometries, ensuring machined parts consistently meet demanding engineering and CAD specifications. This is a permanent position offering long‑term stability and the opportunity to deepen your metrology skills in a high‑performance environment.

About the Role:

A CMM Programmer and Operator is a manufacturing quality specialist who programs and operates Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to inspect parts using software such as PC‑DMIS or ZEISS Calypso, ensuring components meet engineering and CAD specifications. In this role, you will develop and run measurement programs to verify aerospace machined parts, supporting both in‑process and final inspection activities. Your work will directly impact product conformity, customer satisfaction, and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program CMMs using software such as PC‑DMIS, ZEISS Calypso, or similar platforms to create robust, repeatable inspection routines for aerospace components.
  • Operate CMM equipment to perform in‑process, first‑article, and final inspections on machined and assembled parts.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications to define measurement strategies and select appropriate datums and features.
  • Set up parts, fixtures, and probes on the CMM, verifying proper alignment and calibration before running inspection programs.
  • Analyze dimensional data, identify nonconformances, and prepare clear inspection reports to support quality documentation and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and quality personnel to address dimensional issues and support corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain CMMs and related inspection equipment, including routine checks, calibration coordination, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Provide guidance and training to operators and production staff on inspection methods and quality standards to reinforce a culture of precision.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience programming and operating CMMs in a manufacturing environment, preferably with aerospace machining applications.
  • Hands‑on proficiency with CMM programming software such as PC‑DMIS, ZEISS Calypso, or comparable tools.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and its application to complex machined parts.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models with a high level of accuracy.
  • Solid knowledge of precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.) and their proper use.
  • Background in metrology, quality inspection, or dimensional verification, typically 2–5+ years in a production setting.
  • Competence in analyzing measurement data, identifying trends, and communicating findings clearly to cross‑functional teams.
  • Attention to detail, methodical work style, and ability to manage multiple inspection tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing quality systems and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with MBD (Model‑Based Definition) and direct CAD‑to‑CMM programming workflows.
  • Exposure to AS9100 or similar quality management systems and documentation practices.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis tools and structured problem‑solving methodologies.
  • Experience with other inspection technologies such as optical/vision systems, laser scanners, or portable CMMs.
  • Basic CNC machining knowledge to better understand process capability and part features.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certificate or associate degree in manufacturing technology, precision machining, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Formal training in CMM programming (PC‑DMIS, ZEISS Calypso, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • Coursework or certification in GD&T and dimensional metrology is an advantage.

If you’re a detail‑driven CMM professional looking to make a measurable impact in aerospace manufacturing, apply now to take the next step in your quality career.
