Christian was nationally ranked as “high performing” in the clinical specialty of geriatrics and in the following seven of 21 common procedures and conditions : heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, diabetes, COPD, pneumonia and stroke. High performing in a specialty means we were in the top 10% nationally of all evaluated hospitals for that specialty or procedure and condition. Northwest HealthCare, six miles west of Christian, offers 24- hour emergency care, the Sleep Disorders Center and a variety of outpatient diagnostic and imaging services. Christian Hospital has a progressive pharmacy that offers many professionally challenging opportunities to impact patient care. The pharmacy services both Christian Hospital and Northwest HealthCare. The pharmacy staff oversee cutting edge automation in medication distribution systems. Our pharmacists provide clinical services including participation in patient rounds, nutritional therapy services, screening patients daily for change in renal functions and adjusting the dosage accordingly. The pharmacists work in a team-structured environment with other healthcare professionals 24 hours a day. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Assess, monitor, initiate and modify medication use according to patient condition and age specific criteria. Ensure prompt and accurate medication preparation and dispensing. Prevent, direct and resolve medication-related issues. Supervise and direct supportive personnel. Counsel and educate to promote optimal drug therapy. Direct and assist in the procurement, storage, distribution and disposal of medications. Responsibilities Directs and manages workflow including oversight of technicians, interns and volunteers ensuring the accuracy of their work in accordance with departmental procedures and Federal and State regulations. Participates in departmental meetings and on committees at the health service organization, as appropriate. Serves as medication therapy resource for activities such as drug information, training of staff, transitions of care and Medication Therapy Services. Evaluates medication orders for appropriateness with regard to patient condition, organ function and concomitant therapies to promote optimal patient outcomes. Documents all activities and communication as appropriate. Recognize opportunities and offer solutions to maximize efficiency and promote safety within the medication use process.
