Job description

Description

Gonzalez Companies is a partner-managed firm providing Planning, Design, and Construction Management Services to Water, Sewer, and Utility Districts; DOTs; and municipalities. We’re looking for a Senior Site/Civil Engineer who’s ready to make a real impact.
If you’re driven, curious, and energized by both technical challenges and client relationships, you’ll thrive here. This role goes beyond project delivery—you’ll play a central part in running the department for the central region. From shaping its vision and processes to mentoring the team and guiding major projects, you’ll help lay the foundation for long-term growth. You’ll also have the opportunity to deepen programmatic client relationships, expand our book of business, and develop the team of engineers who will grow alongside you.

Your Primary Responsibilities will include

  • Lead and manage the Site/Civil department for the Central region, setting the vision, driving performance, and ensuring high-quality project execution.
  • Actively engage in technical site/civil engineering tasks—including grading, drainage, utilities, and site development—while guiding project teams to successful delivery.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key programmatic clients, building long-term partnerships and ensuring consistent, high-quality service across multiple projects.
  • Grow the department by bringing in new work, strengthening existing relationships, developing proposals, and expanding your own book of business.
  • Manage team resources, workload forecasting, staffing needs, and project assignments to ensure efficient use of talent and timely delivery.
  • Coach, train, and develop junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a positive learning environment and supporting career growth.
  • Oversee and support project execution from concept through construction, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
  • Work with firm leadership to align departmental goals with company-wide initiatives and long-term growth strategies.

What you'll need

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois or Missouri (required).
  • Strong technical background in site/civil engineering, with expertise in drainage and stormwater management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a department or project team, including mentoring staff and managing resources.
  • Proven programmatic client experience, with success managing multi-project or multi-year client relationships.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills – able to articulate detailed engineering concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Track record of business development, strategic networking, or developing a book of business.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical work with big-picture planning and team management.

Gonzalez Offers Competitive Benefits including:

  • Competitive salary
  • Major medical, dental and vision insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Health Savings Account
  • 401K
  • Bonus program
  • Paid holidays and generous paid time off
  • Professional development
  • A team of creative and talented individuals to work alongside
Gonzalez is a rapidly growing, dynamic, professional services firm specializing in civil engineering, construction management, and construction inspection. Our clientele includes large and small water, sewer, and utility districts; departments of transportation and other public transportation agencies; and municipalities throughout the Midwest.
