About the team
The Data Platform team at Roku ensures smooth operation of data pipelines, enabling data scientists, machine learning engineers, and analysts to leverage ingested data to improve user experiences. It handles diverse data types and structures across Roku’s systems, including end-user, IT, and operations data. We are seeking an experienced Tableau Engineer to lead and support Tableau at scale in a high-volume, big-data analytics environment.
This role is deeply technical and focused on performance, scalability, and architecture. You will work closely with Analytics, Data Architecture, and Data Engineering teams to ensure Tableau dashboards remain fast, reliable, and scalable as data volume, user concurrency, and business complexity grow.
This role requires hands-on experience across Tableau, data modeling, SQL optimization, and modern cloud data platforms.
About the role
In this role, you will own and evolve our Tableau Cloud environment and related BI capabilities. You’ll design and optimise how Tableau connects to our data platforms on AWS and GCP, lead migrations, and drive best practices for performance, governance, and usability. You will partner closely with data engineering, analytics, and product teams to ensure our BI stack scales with Roku’s growth and supports confident, data-driven decision-making.
If you’re endlessly curious, comfortable working across infrastructure and user experience, can balance long-term architecture with day-to-day delivery, and enjoy making complex data feel simple, this role is for you.
This role requires hybrid working from Monday to Thursday.
For California Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $190,000 - $225,000 annually. Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location. This role is eligible for health insurance, equity awards, life insurance, disability benefits, parental leave, wellness benefits, and paid time off.
What you’ll be doing
Diagnosing and resolving performance issues in large-scale Tableau environments, including slow or non-loading dashboards under high concurrency
Designing and implementing high-performance Tableau data models, extracts, and aggregation strategies optimized for billions of rows and complex schemas
Leading optimization efforts across Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server / Tableau Cloud, and underlying data platforms
Defining and enforce enterprise Tableau standards for performance, scalability, and maintainability
Providing advanced training and hands-on guidance to analysts and developers on building performant dashboards at scale
Partner with Data Architects to design analytics-ready data layouts (e.g., star schemas, aggregated tables, semantic layers)
Translate data architecture into efficient Tableau logical and physical models
Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to align Tableau usage with upstream pipelines, partitioning strategies, and compute optimization
Advise on Tableau capacity planning, concurrency management, and platform governance
We’re excited if you have
- 7+ years of experience in BI, analytics, or data engineering, with deep specialization in Tableau in large-scale environments
- Expert-level knowledge of Tableau performance tuning, including extracts vs. live connections, context filters, calculations, and workbook design
- Advanced SQL skills with a proven ability to optimize queries on very large datasets
- Strong understanding of data modeling for analytics, including star / snowflake schemas and pre-aggregation strategies
- Experience operating Tableau in high-concurrency, enterprise production environments
- Strong ability to work cross-functionally and influence architecture and platform decisions
Nice to have

The Roku Culture
Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.
We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
