Our client, a lobbying and educational organization which focuses on environment and sustainability issues, is looking for a Major Gifts Officer to join their dynamic, fun, and high-performing team.

The position of Major Gifts Officer is responsible for identifying and building relationships with donors and prospects to secure gifts (four to six figure value).

Prospects may come from individuals, corporate and other organizations, as well as private foundations. This person should be comfortable generating relationships through cold outreach to secure meetings and working with volunteers to achieve the organization’s goals and targets, as well as exceeding those.

This position is a full-time, hybrid role based in Oakland, CA. You must be located in the Bay Area to apply and be able to commute to Oakland.

Responsibilities :

  • Build and establish a large network of existing and prospective donors, deepening relationships in person, virtually, over the phone
  • Meet with donors and prospects across CA. There is an expectation of 100 annual visits with donors for this role, to engage donors and prospects at events and other venues as part of the cultivation process.
  • Solicit gifts up to $100,000+ to reach fundraising goals
  • Develop and support research, identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for the major gift program and prospects assigned to board members and fundraising volunteers
  • Plan and execute regular donor cultivation events, house parties, and political briefings.
  • Create compelling presentations and personalized communication, reports and proposals to donors and prospects
  • Represent the company at external functions and events
  • Work collaboratively with philanthropy, communications, and program staff to develop compelling materials to maximize fundraising results.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in fundraising and 4 years of work experience, ideally within major gift fundraising
  • Track record of building relationships with donors. Ability to understand the needs and interests of those prospects in order to develop relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a larger team
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion as an organizational practice and culture
  • This position requires use of a personal vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance to travel to donor meetings and occasional air travel
  • This position requires occasional evening and weekend work

Base salary : $70k-95k, DOE
