Position Summary

Bellevue College’s (BC) RISE Learning Institute helps facilitate the use of high-impact learning practices on campus. (RISE stands for Research, Innovation, Service, and Experiential learning.

High-impact practices include such practices as undergraduate research, community engaged and civic education, project-based learning, work-based learning, and career exploration.

High impact practices such as these have been shown to increase student engagement and retention and provide greater access to education for demographic groups who have been historically marginalized through prior systems and experiences.

The RISE Learning Institute serves as a hub for hands-on learning, career exploration, learning communities, and community engagement.

The Manager for High Impact Practices (HIP) will work with the Associate Dean to provide day-day leadership, training, technical assistance, and implementation support to help increase faculty use of high impact practices in classes at Bellevue College.

They will also help the staff of RISE and other BC units become more skilled with such approaches and tools. The Manager will pursue research and development regarding HIPs and package that knowledge for BC faculty, staff, and administration.

The HIP Manager will also help faculty convert HIP research into practice, through informational trainings, professional development opportunities, relationship building, marketing and communications, support for faculty learning communities, professional development, and by celebrating HIP successes on campus and the in the greater community at large.

The Manager may have expertise in one or more HIPs or be new to the concept. The Manager must be able to demonstrate a passion for educational change / advancement through HIPs, a willingness to pursue research, writing and training regarding HIPs, help college stakeholders convert HIP research to practice, and serve as a champion for HIPs at Bellevue College.

This position requires equal acumen in research and relationship building on our campus, a dedication to evaluation and benchmarking, and a willingness to lead both small and large-scale efforts to build a culture of HIPs at Bellevue College.

This is a permanent position contingent upon continued funding.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Position Salary Range : $61,467 / year - $86,054 / year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations.

Typically, new hires start no higher than $67,614 based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Generous is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents;

choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid holidays, sick, and vacation plans; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position may be eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act;

salaries below the is eligible for overtime pay.

About the Department

The RISE Learning Institute, a part of the Connected Learning Division, works across Bellevue College and with the surrounding community to provide opportunities for students to learn through experiences, with the goal of helping them identity, articulate, build, and apply strengths.

RISE builds cross campus collaborations, innovative programs, and community connections to provide transformative learning experiences for students.

By fostering Research, Innovation, Service, and Experiential Learning (RISE), the RISE Institute helps students develop skills that can help them succeed during and after their time at Bellevue College.

Essential Functions

Program Leadership

  • Work with the Associate Dean to develop an annual HIP workplan with goals.
  • Leads the program with a focus on inclusion, equity and serving a diverse community of students and faculty.
  • Identify and manage faculty HIP leads, if funded, and develop sub-workplans with these faculty as appropriate.
  • Manage budgets in accordance with workplans and goals.
  • Create strategic plans, annually, to grow HIPs on the BC campus.
  • Create evaluation benchmarks for HIP acceptance and outcomes on campus.
  • Identify the growth and success of HIPs on campus in qualitative and quantitative ways.
  • Market the benefits of HIPs on the BC campus and to additional internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage the College’s Galaxy Digital volunteering software and work to incentivize the use of the software by students and faculty.

Event Leadership and Management

  • Work with stakeholders to organize and implement the online and in-person quarterly Making Learning Visible student showcase.
  • As funded and determined by the Associate Dean, organize and implement a number of faculty engagement strategies, including Faculty Immersions to learn more about community needs, Faculty leads for HIPs, faculty learning communities, etc.
  • Design and implement campus-wide workshops and events focusing on undergraduate research, community engagement and civic education, project-based learning, and career development.
  • Assure that events and curriculum are open and accessible to all students, and encourage participation from marginalized populations.
  • Develop partnerships with external agencies to foster service learning for students.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other college departments (e.g., Institutional Advancement, Office of Diversity and Equity) regarding external partnership, professional development, etc.

HIP Research and Development

  • Consult the peer-reviewed research literature regarding HIPs and convert this research and recommendation to actionable practices at BC.
  • Develop HIPs which focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Develop relationships with other 2-4 year institutions in the region and nationally to determine best practices in HIPs and bring these relationships and approaches to BC faculty.
  • Attend regional, state, and national trainings as necessary to stay abreast of HIP research and practices.
  • Encourage faculty implementation of HIPs on campus.
  • Work with BC’s Effectiveness, Research, and Analytics department to set up protocols to benchmark and evaluate HIP effectiveness at BC.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning. Any combination of relevant education and / or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience implementing one or more educational enhancement / change strategies in secondary or higher education.
  • Effective complex project management skills that involve multiple stakeholders and external partners.
  • Experience setting up and managing online or in-person workshops and events for multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience introducing others to new concepts and approaches, including making public presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse colleagues and / or students in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Experience incorporating equity and cultural diversity into programs.
  • Experience building relationships with educational, non-profit, and employer partners.
  • Experience making significant contributions to cross-unit teams and initiatives.
  • Effective written, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Experience using HIPs in higher education settings.
  • Record of active contribution to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts, whether through leadership, professional service, or community engagement.
  • Demonstrated track record of engaging and / or motivating diverse faculty in a higher education environment.
  • Experience leading faculty professional development initiatives and approaches.
  • Experience leading change management strategies in complex work settings.
  • Advanced computer skills including spreadsheets, databases, results tracking software.
  • Experience creating and / or managing grants, contracts, and other funding proposals.
