Job Summary :
The Patient Registration Representative I is responsible for pre-registration and registration of inpatients and outpatients. This includes securing upfront collections, co-pays, and co-insurance while ensuring accuracy and hospitality. The role involves screening uninsured patients for eligibility in state programs, completing application processes, and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities :
- Safeguards patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Ensures a safe patient environment and adherence to safety practices.
- Exhibits positive guest relations skills and effective communication with patients, staff, and physicians.
- Solves problems while prioritizing patient needs.
- Completes pre-registrations, prepares paperwork, and secures upfront collections.
- Identifies and captures self-pay accounts for Hospital Presumptive Eligibility screening.
- Registers patients in a timely manner, obtaining necessary signatures and documentation.
- Enters patient demographic, medical, and insurance information accurately into the computer system.
- Follows up on incomplete information to ensure accurate registrations.
- Utilizes positive collection skills while complying with EMTALA laws.
- Educates patients about insurance coverage and financial responsibilities.
- Participates in the Performance Improvement program and actively seeks to improve skills and knowledge.
- Adheres to attendance and tardy policies.
- Answers unit phone and directs calls accordingly.
- Performs data entry into electronic medical database systems.
- Coordinates equipment / supply needs.
Required Skills & Certifications :
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated attention to detail.Good English speaking, spelling, reading, and mathematical skills.Strong computer skills and knowledge in Word, Excel.Strong typing skills (45+ wpm).Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent customer service and phone skills.One year of experience in a high-volume healthcare facility or medical office setting.High school diploma or GED equivalent.Insurance knowledge.Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.Complete HPE comprehensive training program as required.Preferred Skills & Certifications :
Medical terminology knowledge.Bilingual in Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin).HPE comprehensive training program and certification.Special Considerations :
Must have full-day availability for the first 2 weeks for training.Required flexibility for initial training, including morning availability for computer and department onboarding.The days worked might vary from one week to the next due to vacation requests, coverage, etc.Scheduling :
72 hours bi-weekly.Shifts are from 15 : 00 to 23 : 30.Various days, every other weekend.Staff is scheduled based on department needs; schedules are not set.
