Accounting Specialist
This position will function as an accounting specialist performing the highly complex accounting functions for the Unemployment Insurance Program. The UIA is responsible for the issuance of unemployment benefits and the collection of unemployment taxes. The Trust Fund Accounting Section performs a full range of accounting and analytical functions for the agency that are extremely diverse. The unit is classified as a complex work area, and staff require strong 'systems' skills, in addition to strong accounting skills. The position performs a variety of professional assignments involving the design, maintenance & implementation of accounting systems; the classification & assessment of accounting data; and the preparation of related Federal, State, managerial and financial reports.
There is a possibility of a remote / hybrid schedule based on performance and operational need. However, all work must be performed in Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position.
Required Education and Experience :
Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting. Four years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant, Auditor, or Assistant Auditor General including two years equivalent to an Accountant P11, Auditor P11, or Assistant Auditor General P11 or one year equivalent to an Accountant 12, Auditor 12, or Assistant Auditor General 12.
Alternate Education and Experience :
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certificate (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience. OR Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.
