Sr. Payroll Specialist
Responsibilities
- Performs accounting services with primary support in Disbursements (Accounts Payable, Payroll).
- Prepares journal entries and reconciles account balances with appropriate records.
- Conducts special investigations and compiles accounting data for specific activities.
- Coordinates or performs the accumulation, analysis and distribution of accounting data.
- Coordinates accounting methods and recommends / implements improvement in departmental procedures.
- Performs liaison activities with accounting management, internal and external customers.
- Investigates problems and implements corrective action.
- Reviews and analyzes accounting data for compliance with policies, procedures, laws, regulations and DOE orders. Assists in training personnel in various accounting routines and procedures.
- Analyzes financial system output and initiates corrections as required.
- Performs, reviews, and analyzes a variety of financial-related calculations.
- May perform other duties as required.
- Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and works in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public, and the environment.
- Takes actions necessary to "stop" work when an unsafe condition or action is identified.
- Every employee has the right and responsibility to stop work when unsafe conditions or actions are identified.
You Must Have
- High School diploma and 5 years of relevant experience.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
- Ability to travel up to 5% of the time.
- United States Citizenship.
We Value
- BS Degree with minimum 5 years of experience or 2 years of additional relevant experience is required. BS degree in accounting preferred.
- Additional college courses in accounting or 4 1 / 2 years in a lower level accounting position is also preferred.
- Experience with running a high volume payroll >
3,000 employees.
Proficiency in computer software; ability to quickly analyze complex financial information and initiate / recommend appropriate actions.
