About the Position :
The Assistant Director will develop and manage the admission visit experience for prospective students and families. As part of the undergraduate recruitment team, the Assistant Director will create, coordinate, and implement daily visit opportunities that reflect the University's message and brand as well as effectively support its enrollment goals.
In addition, the Assistant Director will supervise a team of students who staff the undergraduate admission welcome desk to provide front line customer service to campus visitors and will also have a small recruiting territory.
Essential Functions :
Create, coordinate, and implement daily visit opportunities that reflect the University's message and brand as well as effectively support its undergraduate enrollment goals;
work closely with school-based recruitment offices and other departments on campus who support these opportunities.
Hire, train and supervise students including tour guides and welcome desk staff; develop effective procedures and tasks to ensure visitors to campus have a positive experience from the time they register to visit through follow-up afterwards.
Advise prospective students, parents, and high school counselors on academic and co-curricular options at SMU by often serving as an on-call counselor and managing a small recruitment territory;
this includes making frequent presentations both on and off campus; limited local travel will be required.
Develop and coordinate communications and materials for campus visitors mostly through the admission CRM system SLATE; provide input into the design of printed materials used for visit programs as well as throughout the undergraduate recruitment process.
Provide regular reports on the success and effectiveness of the daily visit opportunities to the Dean and Director of Recruitment;
asses this effectiveness using both quantitative and empirical evidence and make adjustments to the program as necessary.
Attend meetings and conferences to stay abreast of Undergraduate Admission and campus visit issues and represent SMU to the broader education community.

Qualifications
Education and Experience :
Bachelor’s degree is required.
A minimum of three (3) years of work experience is required. Candidate with work experience recruiting for a four-year residential liberal arts and sciences university / college or a two year non-profit college is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Candidate with a history of supervising students in an office or as an organization advisor is desired. Candidate with valid driver’s license and good driving history is required.
Candidate must demonstrate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Candidate with a basic understanding of HTML is preferred.
Candidate must demonstrate sufficient computer experience to learn new software.
Candidate with the ability to give presentations in Spanish and converse with applicants and prospects whose first language is Spanish is preferred.
Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies.
Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.
Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions.
Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
Candidate will work in an alternative work schedule, which includes evenings and weekends with hours and days off outside of the traditional Monday to Friday.
Events outside the normal work day often take place (e.g., College Fairs, campus recruitment events, meetings of students, staff, and tour guides).
Candidate will be required to coordinate coverage for limited campus visit activities when SMU classes are canceled or closed for inclement weather.
This position requires frequent travel.Travel season occurs for approximately three months in the Spring and three months in the Fall.
Other occasional travel may be required both local and regional.
