Job description

Healthy Homes Coalition of West Michigan is a non‑profit organization dedicated to improving children’s health and wellbeing by eliminating harmful housing conditions. Our vision is for all children to grow up in healthy homes free of environmental hazards, accomplished through policy and advocacy, outreach and education, direct services, and continuous collaboration. JOB DESCRIPTION: Healthy Housing Specialist – Lead Hazard Control Program (LHCP) STATUS : Part‑time (20-25 hours per week) SALARY: $20/hour REPORTS TO: Executive Director GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The LHCP Healthy Housing Specialist will be responsible for engaging parents and other community stakeholders regarding local efforts to reduce and remediate lead hazards in homes with young children. The LHCP Specialist will also promote the wider activities of Healthy Homes Coalition in a spirit that promotes parents as agents of change in their community. The job involves extensive community contact, including presence at community events, canvassing, home visits, and phone calls. RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of the LHCP Healthy Housing Specialist will consist of, but are not limited to, the following duties: Support advocacy efforts of the organization Support general outreach efforts Conduct extensive grassroots outreach in strategically chosen neighborhoods (49303, 49504, 49507) to recruit participants for the LHCP and other HHC programs Conduct home assessment and case management activities in full compliance with federal, state, and local laws and in keeping with industry standards Organize and implement regular canvassing of local neighborhoods to share program information Organize annual Trunk‑or‑Treat for Lead Defeat event Organize and conduct parent education classes around environmental hazards in the home Identify and contact leads for participation in the LHCP and other HHC programs Assist applicants in eliminating barriers to application, such as addressing back taxes, procuring insurance, resolving ownership issues, preparing, and collecting extensive paperwork, overcoming cultural barriers, and English/Spanish translation Serve as an advocate to the family and ensuring their successful participation in the LHCP Educate families about environmental health concerns and appropriate methods to reduce or eliminate found hazards Maintain accurate records of all cases and potential leads in Salesforce and supporting paper files Assist with family connections to relevant community resources and partner organizations Attend community events and engage with attendees to promote organizational programs and advocacy efforts Encourage parent engagement in advocacy Always demonstrate professional confidentiality; protecting the rights of clients and their families, ensuring that confidentiality is maintained Possess own insured vehicle for transportation and have a valid driver’s license (mileage reimbursement provided) Participate in resource development activities as requested, with an emphasis upon sharing stories from the field Work as a part of a direct‑service team and supporting coworkers as reasonably requested Participate in all required training and achieve learning objectives in a timely manner Participate in continuous quality improvement activities related to direct services, including program and budget efficiency and effectiveness Other tasks as assigned by organizational Leadership Team ROLE EXPECTATIONS: Stay up to date on the following: children’s environmental health best practices for resources and interventions local housing programs, policy, and systems Be culturally competent and participate in trainings around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Establish and maintaining collaborative relationships with other organizations The work schedule is generally between 8:30am and 5:30pm Monday through Thursday, and 8:30am – 12:30pm on Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours required (The schedule would be determined during interview process or after hiring.) REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Spanish bilingual (must be able to hold conversations and read/translate documents) Minimum of Associates of Arts or Science, or equivalent combination of education and work experience Friendly, outgoing, and welcoming personality that can adapt to a variety of cultures and lived‑experiences Previous administrative experience with strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite Exceptional organizational skills with keen attention to detail Excellent written and oral communication skills with efficient typing skills Ability to prioritize, multitask and make basic arithmetic computations Working knowledge of customer relationship management (CRM) programs Solution‑based problem‑solving skills Dedication to continuous professional growth Must possess strong work ethics and integrity Punctual with efficient time‑management skills Ability to maintain records and to prepare standard reports Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision Ability to work remotely and/or with minimal supervision while being accountable to organizational leadership and the team Ability to keep, manage, and interpret incoming data Must be culturally competent and committed to equity and justice DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (optional): Proficient in Salesforce PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: If accommodations are needed, please include a statement of clarification at application.
