Software Engineer in Test

Piper Companies is seeking a Software Engineer in Test to join a leading organization within the technology and digital solutions industry for a long-term hybrid contract opportunity based out of Durham, NC. The Software Engineer in Test will support innovative platform modernization initiatives by partnering with principal engineering teams to develop scalable test automation strategies, enhance software quality, and improve deployment reliability. This role requires onsite attendance Tuesday through Thursday and offers the potential for future conversion to a full-time position based on business needs and performance.

Responsibilities of the Software Engineer in Test include:

· Develop and maintain automated testing solutions across web applications, APIs, microservices, and enterprise platforms to improve test coverage and efficiency.

· Create and execute UI, integration, performance, and load testing strategies using modern automation tools and frameworks.

· Enhance CI/CD pipelines by integrating automated quality controls, accelerating feedback cycles, and improving release confidence.

· Collaborate closely with software engineers, architects, and DevOps teams to identify quality risks, troubleshoot defects, and implement sustainable testing practices.

· Evaluate emerging technologies, cloud-based testing approaches, and AI-assisted automation tools to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications for the Software Engineer in Test include:

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

· 4+ years of experience building automated test frameworks utilizing tools such as Cypress, Selenium, Playwright, JMeter, or similar technologies.

· Strong programming experience with C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Python, or comparable languages.

· Hands-on experience with CI/CD platforms such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent DevOps technologies.

· Experience performing UI, performance, load, and integration testing within cloud-based environments, preferably Microsoft Azure.

· Solid understanding of Agile development methodologies, source control management, and software development lifecycle best practices.

· Ability to work in a hybrid environment with onsite attendance three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).

Compensation for the Software Engineer in Test:

Salary Range: $40-$50/hr (USD)
