Knowledge and Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or related field required (or equivalent work experience).
- 3-5 years’ experience in labor relations, grievance handling, and employee investigations, preferably in a union environment and transit experience a plus.
- Deep knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, labor laws and investigative procedures.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong preference for multi-facility, multi-CBA work experience.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, HRIS software and investigative tools.
- Certification in human resources, labor relations, investigations, or related field is a plus.
Skills :
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, complex issues to wide and varied audiences in a manner that is clear, concise, accurate and diplomatic.
- Coaching and educating managers.
- Building strong, positive union relationships (Partnership)
- Internal partners to HR, Legal and Business Development and Operations
Key Accountabilities :
- Review, analyze, and address all grievances filed under the collective bargaining agreement.
- Conduct comprehensive investigations into employee complaints, including gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and compiling reports.
- Work closely with union representatives, management, and legal counsel to resolve grievances and investigations in a fair and timely manner.
- Prepare written responses to grievances and investigation findings, outlining recommended actions and resolutions.
- Coordinate and schedule grievance meetings, hearings, and arbitration proceedings as required.
- Notify employees of investigative procedures, hearing dates, and outcomes in a clear and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all grievances, investigations, hearings, and resolutions.
- Provide guidance and training to management and staff on grievance handling procedures, investigative techniques, and best practices.
- Monitor trends in grievances and employee complaints and recommend proactive measures to address underlying issues.
