Maximus is seeking a Sr. Assembler Language Computer (ALC) Programmer to support our Internal Revenue Service (IRS) IO&A project.
This position is remote and requires clearance through the IRS MBI process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Contribute to the development of goals for the department and planning efforts (budgets, operational plans, etc.).
- Responsible for making moderate to significant improvements of systems or products to enhance performance of program / project.
- Problems and issues faced are numerous and undefined, and require detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand the problem. Regularly employ ingenuity and creativity to develop new technical solutions to solve difficult and moderately complex problems.
- Responsible for leading large or complex initiatives that involve technically challenging requirements at this level, involving delegation of work and review of work products of the lower-level technical professionals.
Job-Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
The Sr. ALC Programmer will provide program analysis, design and development support, maintain source code and modify and / or upgrade code, and conduct testing and debugging, as necessaryCreate, update, test, and maintain IBM ALC programsConduct trial runs of programs and software applications to be sure that they will produce the desired information and that the instructions are correctWrite, update, and maintain computer programs or software packages to handle specific jobs such as tracking inventory, storing or retrieving data, or controlling other equipmentWrite, analyze, review, and rewrite programs, using workflow chart and diagram and applying knowledge of computer capabilities, subject matter, and symbolic logicPerform or direct revision, repair, or expansion of existing programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirementsConsult with managerial, engineering, and technical personnel to clarify program intent, identify problems, and suggest changesPerform systems analysis and programming tasks to maintain and control the use of computer systems software as a systems programmerCompile and write documentation of program development and subsequent revisions, adding comments to software application code so others can understand the programPrepare and maintain detailed workflow charts and diagrams that describe input, output, and logical operation, and convert them into a series of instructions coded in a computer languageWork with CSA's (Computer Systems Analysts) to define and resolve problems in running computer programsJob-Specific Minimum Requirements :
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required. An additional four (4) years of related experience may substitute for degreeEight or more years of experience with ALC developmentExperience with IBM ALC programming language in a Z / OS environmentExperience with IBM Job Control Language (JCL)Demonstrated success in client supportAbility to interface with all levels of managementAbility to perform complex tasks with minimal supervision and guidanceExcellent time management, scheduling and organizational skillsCandidates must meet requirements to obtain and maintain an IRS Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) clearance (active IRS Moderate Risk MBI is a strongly preferred); MBI clearance requires candidates must be a US Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident (Green Card status) for at least three (3) years, and Federal Tax compliantExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentAbility to work well independently or in a team settingPreferred Skills and Qualifications :
Experience with TSO, File Manager, ISPF, Endevor, and IBM utilities including De-Bug; experience with IRS Corporate SystemsKnowledge of federal information security policies, standards, procedures, directives, and risk management processesMinimum Requirements

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
