Golf Course Irrigation Technician

The Irrigation Technician, under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, is responsible for the programming, operation and maintenance of the golf course and landscape irrigation system(s) as well as the maintenance and installation of the golf course drainage systems.

The Irrigation Technician is required to report any irregularities in course quality to the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.

Essential Functions :

Irrigation of greens, tees, fairways, roughs and landscapes.

• Identification and application of additional irrigation to areas showing drought stress.
• Repairs equipment associated with irrigation system, pipes irrigation heads, wiring and control system.
• Tests and insures functionality of the irrigation system at all times. Monthly testing of all irrigation heads required and activating equipment.
• Maintains complete records on all equipment maintenance associated with the irrigation system
• Maintains irrigation repair part inventories.
• Operates trenching machines, sod cutters, dump trailers and utility tractors and equipment.
• Occasionally supervises a small labor force for special projects.
• Perform other ongoing course maintenance duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills :

Education : High school degree or equivalent required

Experience : One-year experience required or one year plus related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities :

• Working knowledge of basic electricity related to irrigation system, including automatic valves, controllers, pumps and pumping systems.
• Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscape maintenance work.
• Demonstrated quality written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision.
