Faculty Position Tenure / Clinical Track Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery

The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for an open (tenure / clinical track) faculty position in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences for a position in Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery.

Position Overview

The Ohio State University Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences invites applications for a full-time clinical- or tenure-track faculty position in Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery.

This is a clinical emphasis position and candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient management, client service and clinical teaching.

Clinical-track candidates will be assigned up to 70% time in clinics and tenure track up to 50%, including patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents.

The Department and College are interested in developing our innovative surgical programs, including canine sports medicine, minimally invasive surgery, integrated trauma care, musculoskeletal oncology, and total joint arthroplasty.

Sponsored research is required for tenure track. For clinical track faculty clinical research, publications, and other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged.

Teaching responsibilities will primarily include the clinical teaching of small animal orthopedic surgery and related topics to 4th year professional students, residents, and graduate students and instruction in basic surgical principles to students in all years of the professional curriculum.

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences supports a faculty of over 75 clinical specialists, educators, and investigators along with extensive training programs for professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students.

The Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery service ( https : / / vet.osu.edu / vmc / companion / our-services / orthopedic-surgery ) is located within the Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) Columbus (http : / / vet.

osu.edu / vmc) with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including diagnostic imaging (3-Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT), independent Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation service, and the VMC Dublin https : / / vet.

osu.edu / vmc / dublin ). Our goal is to augment and advance the clinical, research and teaching components of the small animal surgery program.

The appointee will join the Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery service within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, which is currently comprised of ten faculty including orthopedic, soft tissue, and surgical oncology;

ten residents; two interns; and five technicians at VMC-Columbus.

OSU-VMC is an approved training center for the ACVS Joint Replacement Surgery Fellowship. Training in joint replacement surgery, including the JRS fellowship, would be available to interested candidates as part of this appointment.

Faculty members are encouraged to develop collaborative endeavors with clinicians and scientists within the College of Veterinary Medicine, including clinical trials ( http : / / vet.

osu.edu / vmc / clinical-trials ) and other units on the university campus. The comprehensive OSU Health Sciences Center, which is within walking distance of the college, and includes but is not limited to the Department of Orthopedics ( http : / / www.

ortho.ohio-state.edu ), the Sports Medicine Center ( https : / / wexnermedical.osu.edu / sportsmedicine ), the Department of Biomedical Engineering ( https : / / bme.

osu.edu / ), the Wright Center of Innovation in Biomedical Imaging ( https : / / medicine.osu.edu / departments / radiology / research / wrightcenter-of-innovation ), and the Spine Research Institute (http : / / spine.osu.edu).

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Profit sharing will be provided for the clinical effort provided at the VMC-Dublin clinical facility.

The start date is negotiable.

Education and Experience Requirements

ACVS or ECVS is preferred, resident trained candidates finishing residency will be considered.
