Laboratory Analyst II (Asbestos/Microbiology)
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Microbiological samples preparation and analysis for air, water, sewage, food / environmental microbiology samplesAnalyze bacterial and fungal samples by classical and advanced methods
Microbiological samples preparation and analysis using phase contrast microscopy
Reading and identifying fungi in spore traps / directs(swabs, tapes, bulks)
Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy) PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures
Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material
Receive environmental samples and log-in / data entry Chain of custodies into LIMS system.
Record data in a specified manner
Review paperwork for incoming samples to ensure completeness and correctness
Make sure all samples are placed into proper storage for analysis
Generate analytical reports and enter data produced by analysts into the LIMS system for production of final reports to customer
Handle inventory and record keeping
Assist with customer service client questions via phone and email and in person
Clerical duties such as answering phones, filing, faxing, scanning
General laboratory housekeeping including sweeping, wiping down surfaces, cleaning incubators, waste disposal
Requirements :
Bachelor’s Degree in a Life Science : Geology, Microbiology, Biology, Environmental Science
Three to five years' commercial laboratory experience
Experience with air samples, surface samples, food testing, bacteriology, mycology, and / or asbestos analysis is desirable
Ability to multi-task and adhere to requirements of the Quality Management System
Ability to focus and be detail-oriented and capable of performing microscopy for a various lengths of time
Candidate must be able to distinguish between colors in order to perform analysis
Ability to work with Phase Contrast and Light Microscopes, analytical balances, biological safety cabinets, filtration manifolds, and must be able to adhere to sterile techniques and good lab practices
Good communications skills (candidate will have some client interaction) and the ability to multi-task
Good computer skills, both in typing and MS Office Suite
Ability to maintain client confidentiality
Ability to work independently and with a team
Must be able to work under pressure and meet short deadlines
