Job Title : 340B Informatics & Analytics Pharmacist

Department : Retail Rx OSU Specialty Pharmacy Ackerman

Scope of Position

Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Pharmacy Informatics, the 340B Informatics Pharmacist will directly support the 340B team by optimizing data and informatics systems.

This position will develop, test, train, maintain, and support clinical systems used in medication management and related pharmacy automation with primary focus on reporting and analytics.

The position is a member of the Pharmacy Data Analytics Team and part of the Pharmacy Informatics Team, which serves the pharmacy enterprise.

The pharmacy enterprise consists of the following : Inpatient and outpatient areas of University Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital, University Hospital East, James Cancer Hospital, Harding Hospital, Brain and Spine Hospital, and Dodd Davis Rehabilitation Hospital.

OSU Physician Group and The Ohio State Outpatient Pharmacy are also considered part of the pharmacy enterprise. The pharmacy enterprise has a close affiliation with all of the health sciences colleges, most importantly the College of Pharmacy.

The pharmacy enterprise contributes to the academic and research mission of the university by training residents, publishing peer-reviewed papers, and precepting pharmacy student hours of experiential education.

Position Summary

The 340B Informatics Pharmacist will provide medication and related system expertise to the development, analysis, and implementation of enterprise-wide clinical system projects, promoting cooperation and collaboration with other team members to achieve Department of Pharmacy and OSUWMC enterprise goals.

The position will develop, maintain, and support clinical application systems and automation that pertain to the 340B Program and / or medication management.

The 340B Informatics Pharmacist needs to be knowledgeable in 340B program operations, compliance, and vendor relations as well as information systems, data management and reporting.

In addition, the 340B Informatics Pharmacist will be familiar with OSUWMC pharmacy operations, policies, and procedures, and stay current with developments and issues in the practice of pharmacy.

The 340B Informatics Pharmacist needs to be able to set priorities and work independently. The 340B Informatics Pharmacist will contribute to a positive team culture.

Job Functions

Implementation and integration of pharmacy information systems and automation (25% effort)

  • Analysis / Assessment : Participates in system process analysis, needs assessments, and preliminary cost / benefit analyses in an effort to align information technology solutions with health system / patient care initiatives
  • Design / Development : Contributes to design, development, modification, implementation and testing of health system programs, applications software, and / or services
  • Project Management : Performs project management duties as assigned. Assists in preparing project requests. Performs work within defined project scope.

Communicates with project stakeholders as outlined in communication matrix. Escalates issues to project manager. Assists in project planning.

Completes project build, testing, documentation as assigned. Provides remote or on-site support as assigned.

System Maintenance and Support (65% effort)

Issues : Participates in the identification and resolution of system and automation issues, suggesting solutions to identified problems and actively engaging internally and externally to resolve.

Fields staff complaints and reports system problems through the appropriate issue-management system(s). Provides technical support in response to user problems and questions regarding functionality, operations, input / output, reporting and general operating procedures.

  • Upgrades : Completes review, build & training tasks for Nova notes as assigned. Runs assigned testing script(s).
  • Vendor Relations : Works with application vendor(s) for scheduling and monitoring results of software patches, downtime, recovery plans and upgrade loads to both test and live environments to ensure minimal interruption to operations.
  • Quality and Safety : Ensures all systems contain accurate, complete, accessible information through maintenance and support activities.

Adheres to principles and practices of Just Culture.

  • Documentation : Creates, reviews, and maintains documentation pertaining to clinical systems and automation administered by the Pharmacy Informatics team.
  • Change Management : Follows institutional practices for change management.
  • Liaison to IT and Pharmacy Department : Works closely with health system staff and technical personnel to determine exact nature of problems, implements remedial procedures and educates end users to prevent future occurrences;

documents problems, correction procedures, and communicates findings to departmental staff.

User Build and Access : Maintains application security protocols; assigns users and provides application access as appropriate.

Administrative Activities (5% effort)

  • Committee(s) : Supports OSUWMC committees as requested.
  • Policies and Procedures : Complies with all established processes, standards, and requirements, including those for Pharmacy Informatics, the Department of Pharmacy, IT, OSUWMC, and The Ohio State University.
  • Professional Development : Maintains appropriate Epic certification(s). Maintains familiarity with pharmacy operations, priorities and business needs.

Stays up-to-date on evolving industry trends and developments.

Team Building : Participates in regular team meetings. Participates in team-building activities (e.g., large team meetings, retreats).

Leverages various channels and tools to recognize colleagues' contributions and value.

Educational, Research and Scholarship Activities (5% effort)

  • Training : Participates in the development and implementation of training programs for clinical applications. Advises end-user training on clinical applications to ensure understanding of functionality.
  • Precepting : Supports the PGY2 Informatics Residency as requested.
