Planner I - Transportation Planning & GIS

Brief Description of Work :

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager Strategic and Regional Planning, responsible for transportation planning, project management, project development, planning analysis and forecasting, environmental analysis, and GIS and data analysis activities for the Planning and Sustainability division.

Essential Functions :

General

Support transportation planning initiatives within the Planning and Sustainability department.

Assist in project management tasks related to transportation planning projects.

Contribute to project development efforts by conducting research, gathering data, and preparing reports.

Conduct planning analysis and forecasting to support decision-making processes.

Assist in environmental analysis related to transportation projects and initiatives.

Utilize GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and conduct data analysis to support planning activities.

Collaborate with team members to ensure the timely completion of tasks and projects.

Assist in public outreach efforts, including community meetings and stakeholder engagement.

Stay informed about relevant transportation policies, regulations, and industry best practices.

Support the preparation of grant applications and funding proposals for transportation projects.

Maintain accurate records and documentation related to planning activities and projects.

Participate in departmental meetings and contribute ideas for improving processes and procedures.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Research and Data

Develops and maintain geographic database of transit system performance data, U.S. Census data, and regional geographic data

Prepares thematic maps to evaluate transit performance trends and communicate findings to senior staff

Performs spatial analysis regarding to transit amenities, transit system performance, regional transportation system, demographic population, land use, etc.

Prepares GIS maps, analysis tools, and programs to be used by JTA staff and customers

GIS, Research and Data Analytics

Minimum Qualifications :

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Computer Science, Business / Public Administration, Statistics, or related field.

Some relevant internship experience or coursework related to transportation planning, project management, GIS, data analysis, or environmental analysis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Familiarity with transportation planning principles, methodologies, and tools.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and GIS software (such as ArcGIS).

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Basic understanding of environmental regulations and impact assessments.

Knowledge of public transit systems and sustainability principles will be beneficial.

Advanced knowledge and experience with Geographic Information Systems to support. transportation planning including ArcPro, Server, and ArcGIS Online.

Ability to explain quantitative and qualitative analysis in an understandable manner.

Ability to analyze complex data and make recommendations accordingly.

Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with staff, community and consultants.

Possession of good written and verbal communications skills to develop requests for proposals, professional correspondence, to make presentations, and to conduct technical meetings.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include some weekends and evenings.
