Key Responsibilities :
Design, develop, and deploy advanced Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models to support student success analytics Establish and document best practices, standards, and guidelines for Power BI development Mentor and provide technical guidance to new Power BI developers on the team Collaborate with business systems analysts and stakeholders to gather, analyze, and translate complex business requirements into technical specifications Develop and optimize complex SQL queries to create reporting views in SQL Server Implement robust data security measures and access controls for sensitive student information Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and university policies regarding student data Perform data modeling and optimization to ensure report performance and scalability Create comprehensive documentation for reports, data models, and development processes
Experience Skillset Required :
Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including : Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and Power BI Report Server DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for complex calculations and measures Power Query (M language) for data transformation Semantic model (dataset) design and optimization Row-level security (RLS) and object-level security implementation Advanced SQL skills, including : Complex query development and optimization Stored procedures, views, and functions Performance tuning and query optimization Experience with relational database management systems (SQL Server preferred) Data security and privacy expertise : Experience implementing security protocols for sensitive / confidential data Knowledge of data governance principles and compliance requirements Business analysis capabilities : Proven ability to gather and translate complex business requirements into technical solutions Experience working with stakeholders at various organizational levels Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in business intelligence and analytics development Portfolio or examples of previous Power BI dashboards and reports demonstrating complexity and design excellence Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively Preferred experience : Experience in higher education analytics, particularly student success metrics and initiatives Understanding of FERPA or similar educational data privacy regulations Familiarity with AWS data lake ecosystem, including : Amazon S3, Glue and Athena Apache Iceberg Redshift Familiarity with data integration & transformation tools such as dbt, Informatica, etc. Experience with data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling (star schema, snowflake schema) Knowledge of Python or R for advanced analytics integration Experience with version control systems (Git) for BI development Familiarity with Agile / Scrum methodologies Power BI certification (Microsoft Certified : Data Analyst Associate or similar) Knowledge of data visualization best practices and UX / UI design principles Experience with other BI tools (Tableau, Qlik, etc.) for comparative understanding Background working with student information systems (SIS) or educational databases
