We are seeking a full-time Product Engineer (Hardware) to work with our two primary product lines. The key responsibilities of this role include :
- Direct involvement in the hardware design process
- Verifying hardware design prototypes
- Diagnosing hardware manufacturing defects
- Serving as the technical interface to our contract manufacturers
- Maintaining up-to-date product manufacturing documentation

- Anticipated salary range of $95,000 to $125,000, depending on relevant work experience and technical skill level.
As JPS is a small company, being a self-starter and solving problems on your own is essential. You will need to troubleshoot hardware problems on your own (design related and manufacturing defects), and you will need to check documentation details meticulously.
Over time, you will be asked to converse with customers dealing with in-depth hardware issues. Follow-through is important and expected, but there will be plenty of support from other team members.
Additional role responsibilities include :
- Learning the fundamentals of our various products in active development.
- Providing thoughtful feedback regarding future product development.
- Developing and implementing test procedures and product prototypes.
- Testing products to ensure they meet performance and quality standards.
- Maintaining organization and updating all engineering / manufacturing documentation such as schematics, bills of materials, assembly instructions, and manufacturing test procedures.
- Facilitating processing of design change documentation for both hardware and software.
- Serving as the primary technical interface to our off-site manufacturers and outside design firms, including answering technical questions, sourcing replacement components, and distributing updated product documentation.
Considered candidates should possess :
- 5+ years of professional experience in a related role.
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a technical field.
- In-depth knowledge of product development processes, including ideation, design, and testing.
- General understanding of hardware manufacturing processes.
- Basic understanding of analog to digital audio conversion
- Basic understanding of IP networking, SSH, and FTP.
- Proficiency in using test and laboratory equipment such as multimeter, soldering iron, signal generator, and oscilloscope.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and efficiently.
- Attention to detail, strong organization skills, and a passion for quality.
Our ideal candidate would also possess :
- Advanced degree in Software or Mechanical Engineering.
- Basic understanding of C, C++, and Make.
- Familiarity with hardware component procurement processes.
- Experience in schematic capture and / or PCB layout using tools such as OrCAD or DipTrace.
