ROLE of the POSITION
Reporting to the Director of Career & Life Design for the office of Career Services and as part of the AANAPISI STEM / Health Sciences Life Design Accelerator grant, the Career & Life Design Specialist advances the mission of UNLV Career Services in preparing and supporting the career readiness of diverse and dynamic UNLV students and alumni.
The Career & Life Design Specialist works as part of an innovative Career Services and Workforce Development team delivering inclusive and culturally responsive career development facilitation and life design coaching to students through the main campus career services hub.
The Career & Life Design Specialist utilizes and provides expertise in the Career & Life design model to engage students in effectively navigating career trajectories and building meaningful experiences throughout the student experience and lifecycle.
In addition, the Career & Life Design Specialist provides guidance and professional development advice to assist students applying and preparing for internships, experiential learning opportunities, career employment or graduate and professional school.
The Career & Life Design Specialist is responsible for a range of facilitation, classroom and group presentation and coaching activities to include :
- Advise and prepare undergraduate, graduate students and Alumni to make informed career decisions using life design tools and techniques and informed career coaching practices
- Teach effective interviewing techniques and regularly conduct mock interviews providing constructive feedback and resulting in positive job search outcomes.
- Administer and interpret career assessments and advise students and alumni on major and career choices.
The Career & Life Design Specialist conducts outreach and coordinates career and professional development programs and interactive workshops as follows :
- Creates and presents interactive, engaging, and informative workshops / seminars / panels and networking events for student groups, organizations and special events
- Develops tailored, targeted marketing and outreach content for first generation and multicultural student populations
- Develops and delivers customized classroom presentations and assists faculty with career related assignments inside and outside of the classroom
- Support major career services events and engaging student activities
- Provide expertise, guidance and effective delivery of life design content in career presentations and programs
- Align with campus advisors, student affairs specialists and others to creatively incorporate career conversations, professional development and career readiness activities into co-curricular program outreach and delivery
- Actively engage in and support new student orientation and onboarding programs and activities
The Career & Life Design Specialist supports the work of the Career Services team and college career centers by actively contributing to the following key initiatives :
- Create engaging career content in digital and print formats to deliver relevant and up to date information on career and life design, job market trends by industry, effective internship and job search methods, employers seeking UNLV students and graduates, campus programs and initiatives.
- Contribute to the Rebel Career Champions program via resources, student and faculty support, curriculum development and delivery, classroom presentations and programs
- Support the training, development and coaching efforts of the peer career coaching peers
- Consistently update databases, assessment and reporting tools for effective data
informed decision making around career coaching and programming impact
- Utilize job seeking and career decision making tools, processes and programs
- Demonstrate involvement in professional development organizations and stay up to date in the field
- Fully support major career services and division events as well as committee contributions
- REVISED* MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and / or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 1-3 years’ experience in counseling / coaching, or higher education, or career and professional development, or related field.
Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
REVISED* PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in related field from an accredited institution with 3-5 years’ experience.
Experience with career and life design coaching and with career services delivery to diverse college student populations is preferred.

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
