Department Summary
The Center for Learning Experimentation, Application, and Research (CLEAR) offers comprehensive services spanning instructional design, multimedia production, faculty training, accessibility & copyright compliance, and research & development for instructional technologies to create the ultimate destination for modern, innovative online education.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for creating, developing, and implementing complex software systems to support online learning.
Performs complex computer programming work. Work involves assisting in the planning, scheduling, and assigning of programming projects;
coordinating programming projects; analyzing proposed applications; preparing and developing programs; and providing technical assistance.
This position acts as lead for team doing similar work.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with coursework in computing or information systems and five years' of progressively responsible computer programming and analysis experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Intermediate knowledge of the methods and equipment used in electronic data processing, including system analysis and design, and computer programming techniques.
Strong skill in writing programs for computer applications.
Strong skill in analyzing and solving complex data processing and computing problems.
Ability to coordinate a work team and train lower level programmers and analysts for specific tasks or assignments.
Ability to communicate technical and other information to a variety of stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with coursework in computing or information systems and five years of progressively responsible computer programming and analysis experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must have mastery-level experience with PHP, SQL, HTML / CSS, JavaScript, GIT, UX design, and API usage. Experience with Canvas API, Canvas Data, AWS, Generative AI APIs, Python, C#, Unity 3D, Blender, XR programing is a plus.
Required License / Registration / Certifications
Job Duties :
- Collaborates with the DSI research team and acts as lead programmer to help design, program, test, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of new innovative experimental instructional techniques using technologies like AR, VR, AI, and Machine Learning
- Analyzes user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints. Confers with systems analysts, engineers, programmers and others to design system and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces
- Acts as lead to help design, program, test, and maintain highly complex, professional, reusable, multimedia database driven course interactions, utilities, and animations for online course instruction
- Researches current trends in multimedia programming, animation, and design, shares findings to other DSI / CLEAR team members and makes recommendations for promising new technologies or innovative solutions
- Programs applications and scripts to automate common LMS tasks and to facilitate data collection and reporting
- Maintains ongoing self-taught expertise with appropriate software applications and programming languages including, but not limited to, C, Python, PHP, HTML / CSS, SQL, JavaScript, Coding IDEs, GIT, Unity 3D, Blender and other 3D Modeling software
- Exercises strong interpersonal skills, is a good team player, and collaborates effectively with people in (and outside of) the team to successfully reach established goals
