Job description
Construction Materials Testing (CMT) TechnicianThompson Engineering is seeking qualified Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technicians for multiple locations. This position is responsible for the daily oversight of construction materials testing and inspection activities on active construction sites to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements. Ideal candidates will demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to travel across multi-states to various job sites as needed.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform field testing of construction materials using a 40-pound nuclear density gaugeObtain concrete samples from ready-mix trucks and prepare concrete test cylindersConduct concrete testing and transport samples to the laboratory for further analysisCollect, document, and deliver soil samples from job sites to the laboratoryObserve construction activities and accurately record performance dataPerform visual inspections of reinforcing steel (rebar)Maintain detailed daily field diaries documenting project activitiesPrepare and submit daily reports and required documentation to the Team Leader in accordance with project specificationsEnsure quality and quantity standards are met on all assigned workProactively review project documents and testing procedures to understand technical requirementsCommunicate professionally and ethically with clients, contractors, and team membersMaintain company-owned equipment in safe, proper working conditionReport any required corrective actions to the Team Leader to ensure work quality meets company standardsFollow all written procedures, company policies, and safety requirementsComplete field activities and reports accurately and in a timely mannerPerform all duties in a professional, ethical mannerAdditional ResponsibilitiesEstablish personal goals for continuous improvement and job performanceMaintain reliable, punctual, and regular attendanceAttend and actively participate in safety meetings and training programsPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsMinimum RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalentMinimum of six (6) months of construction materials testing experienceACI Level I Certification (or ability to obtain)Nuclear Gauge CertificationAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writingValid driver's licenseAbility to read and write in EnglishWillingness to travel to various job sites as requiredLevel and compensation commensurate with experiencePhysical RequirementsAbility to work flexible schedules and overtime as required by operational needsAbility to lift and carry a minimum of 50 poundsAbility to safely operate a company vehicleAbility to push or pull up to 400 pounds using a wheelbarrowAbility to walk, stoop, bend, climb stairs and laddersAbility to work on uneven terrain including concrete, gravel, dirt, and grassAbility to work at elevated heights and in open structuresAbility to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditionsAbility to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)About Thompson EngineeringFounded in 1953, Thompson Engineering provides quality assurance and professional services for construction projects supporting industrial, infrastructure, and community development.
