At S&ME, we have a history of delivering innovative geotechnical, civil, environmental, and construction material testing for over 50 years. Over the decades, we have grown into a trusted partner for clients across various industries, including transportation, energy, water, waste management, education, government, commercial, industrial, and more. Our commitment to technical excellence and integrity has established us as a leader in our field.

Why Work at S&ME?

  • Career Growth: We invest in your success with mentorship, training, and leadership opportunities.
  • Exciting Projects: Big or small, simple or complex, we do it all. Our projects are as diverse as they are exciting, so every day brings something new.
  • Supportive Culture: Collaboration, respect, and positivity fuels our team environment.
  • Flexibility: Work-life balance matters to us, helping you thrive inside and outside the office.
  • Community Impact: Your work will directly improve the communities where we live, work, and play.

About The Role:

The Construction Materials Project Manager role involves leading projects from the planning stage through successful completion, ensuring work is delivered on schedule, meets regulatory requirements, and aligns with quality standards and client objectives. You'll oversee technical activities, provide leadership and mentorship to engineering and field staff, and build lasting partnerships with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders. Your expertise will play a key role in maintaining construction quality, protecting structural performance, and supporting the successful delivery of infrastructure projects. Through effective project management, technical guidance, field oversight, and business relationship development, you'll help drive successful project execution while contributing to the continued growth and reputation of the organization.

  • Project Management & Delivery: Lead CMT and Special Inspection projects from start to finish, overseeing budgets, schedules, staffing, and technical direction to ensure work meets project plans, specifications, and applicable IBC standards.
  • Client & Contractor Coordination: Maintain regular communication with clients and contractors through meetings and site visits to discuss expectations, monitor project status, and foster strong working relationships throughout the project.
  • Technical Guidance & Team Development: Supervise field inspections, ensure detailed documentation of site activities, and provide guidance to technicians and engineers to support accurate testing, reliable reporting, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Documentation, Proposals & Quality Assurance: Direct the preparation of reports, proposals, technical scopes, and cost estimates while ensuring deliverables are accurate, complete, and submitted on schedule.
  • Client Growth & Industry Engagement: Build and strengthen client partnerships, stay active in professional organizations (such as ASCE, AGC, and ACEC), and contribute to business development initiatives that expand local market opportunities and revenue.

About You:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or a similar Engineering field
  • You have a minimum of 4 years of experience in construction materials testing and inspection
  • You have a Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Current ICC, ACI, and DOT certifications are a plus
  • You have a strong working knowledge of applicable ACI, ASTM, AASHTO, DOT standards and procedures, and IBC Special Inspections.
  • You have effective verbal and written communication skills, including attention to detail. You should be able to develop and facilitate accurate technical materials.

You Are Willing and Able to:
