Job description

A career in transportation is more than bridges, roads, and rail. As we plan, design, and manage projects that move people and goods from Point A to Point B, we create connections that transform our communities. Every airport, road, bridge, port, or transit project is an opportunity to make communities safer, cleaner, and more resilient. Together, we’re making an impact around the world.

If you’re looking for a career that moves, join our team of professionals who are passionate about the future of transportation.

Your Opportunity

Join our growing team in Lexington, KY as a Transportation Drainage Engineer and help shape the future of transportation infrastructure across the region. In this role, you’ll apply your expertise to the drainage design of roadways, expressways, and transit facilities—projects that keep communities connected and moving forward.

You’ll collaborate with a talented, multidisciplinary team to develop innovative, high-quality designs and contract plans that meet state and federal standards. This position offers the opportunity to work on multiple exciting projects—ranging from mid-size assignments to key components of major transportation initiatives—while advancing your career in an environment that values creativity, technical excellence, and professional growth.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with clients, partners, and project teams to keep communication open and projects moving.

  • Lead and coordinate tasks with fellow engineers and technicians, working together to deliver high-quality solutions.

  • Gather and analyze the data that drives smarter, more sustainable drainage design for transportation projects.

  • Perform and review drainage calculations, studies, and reports that shape key project decisions.

  • Take part in project meetings and share your insights to help guide technical discussions.

  • Contribute to proposals and technical documentation that win and deliver great projects.

  • Follow established design and documentation standards while helping improve team workflows.

  • Support client and stakeholder communication with professionalism and attention to detail.

  • Play an active role in business development, deliver top-quality results, provide excellent service, and help strengthen client relationships.

  • Collaborate with project managers to coordinate efforts between clients, subconsultants, and internal teams.

  • Stay ahead of the curve by keeping your engineering knowledge and technical skills sharp.

  • Mentor and motivate teammates, turning every challenge into an opportunity to learn and grow.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficiency with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer required.

  • Experience with ORD Drainage, HEC-RAS (including scour analysis), STORMCAD, HY-8, and other drainage software used by the KYTC Highway Design Drainage Branch highly preferred.

  • Strong teamwork skills with the flexibility to adapt and collaborate across multiple projects.

  • Excellent communication, multitasking, and attention to detail.

  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and collaborate with multiple project managers in a dynamic environment.

Education and Experience

  • Completion of a four (4) year college level academic program in Civil Engineering with a Bachelor of Science degree is mandatory. A minimum of five (5) years of experience.

  • EIT registration required, PE license is preferred.
