Environmental Manager
The Environmental Manager leads environmental compliance, permitting, and performance for the facility, ensuring all operations meet or exceed federal, state, and local regulations. This role manages environmental systems, conducts risk assessments, and drives continuous improvement in air, water, and waste programs. The Environmental Manager collaborates with operations, engineering, maintenance, and regulatory agencies to integrate environmental considerations into daily activities, maintain stakeholder relationships, and provide technical guidance to leadership and frontline teams.
Regulatory Compliance & Permitting
- Manage environmental compliance across air, water, waste, and hazardous materials.
- Oversee permitting, regulatory submissions, audits/inspections, and agency interactions as primary liaison.
- Own and manage the master compliance calendar to ensure zero missed deadlines.
Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
- Develop, implement, and maintain environmental policies, ISO 14001 systems, compliance obligations, emergency preparedness, and internal audits.
Risk Assessment & Impact Mitigation
- Conduct environmental audits and assessments; identify risks and impacts; implement corrective actions and mitigation strategies across operations and projects.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Coordination
- Partner with operations, engineering, logistics, and external consultants; mentor environmental staff; maintain productive relationships with regulatory agencies.
- Own the environmental compliance budget and manage sampling labs, consultants, and disposal vendors, and manage and develop the environmental specialists assigned to the program.
Reporting, Monitoring & Performance Management
- Prepare environmental reports, track KPIs, manage incident reporting systems, and maintain audit readiness while driving continuous improvement in environmental performance.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (ChE, EnvE, CE, ME), Environmental Science, or related technical field.
- 8+ years of environmental experience.
- Expert knowledge of federal environmental regulations including Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, EPCRA, SPCC, and state/county/local regulations and requirements.
- Hands-on experience managing environmental permits (air, wastewater, stormwater), environmental regulatory reporting (hazardous waste, Tier II, TRI), and ensuring compliance in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience performing environmental risk assessments, including wastewater characterization, waste profiling, and environmental impact evaluations. Knowledge of air dispersion modeling methods, criteria, and trigger requirements.
- Experience developing, implementing and maintaining Environmental Management Systems, especially ISO 14001 and equivalent frameworks.
- Technical proficiency of environmental monitoring tools, sampling equipment, emissions calculations, sampling methods (EPA, ASTM), and data analysis.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and integrate environmental requirements into equipment design and process changes through change management methods.
