The Peoria Police Department is currently seeking a Forensic Specialist to join our dedicated and growing Forensic Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that is expanding and evolving. We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual who excels in challenging environments, is adaptable to a wide range of forensic tasks, and is committed to serving our community with integrity and professionalism. Key Responsibilities :

  • Operate within multiple forensic disciplines such as :

Crime scene investigation

  • Lab processing of items of evidence
  • Latent print analysis
  • NIBIN test fire entry and analysis
  • Collaborate closely with detectives, officers, and other units within the department
  • Maintain accurate reports, logs, and chain of custody documentation
  • Participate in continuing education and cross-training within the unit
  • Support community-focused forensic services in a team-based environment

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education :

  • Associate's degree or equivalent in Forensic Science or related field.
  • Experience :

  • 1-2 years experience in same or similar previous positions.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Work requires moderate physical exertion. Forces exerted are equivalent to lifting between 10 and 25 pounds.
  • Licenses and Certifications :

  • Valid Arizona Class "D" Driver's License required upon hire .
  • Arizona Criminal Justice Information System Terminal Operator Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Preferred / Desirable Qualifications :

  • Associate degree (or higher) in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, Photography, or a related field
  • OR multiple years of hands-on forensic experience processing crime scenes or comparisons of latent prints
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to work in physically demanding, messy, and sometimes unpleasant environments (e.g., outdoor crime scenes, biological hazards, odors, extreme temperatures)
  • Willingness to be part of an on-call rotation for 24 / 7 coverage
  • Candidates that do not meet the minimum requirements may be considered for Forensic Specialist Assistant
