Job description

The Johns Hopkins Institute for Planetary Health (JHIPH) is a leading organization at the forefront of Planetary Health, a new, rapidly growing global field and social movement focused on understanding the human health impacts of our disruption and transformation of Earth's natural systems and the solutions necessary to address these challenges. Never before has humanity's footprint on the natural world been so large or so threatening to human health and well-being.

The JHIPH mission is to catalyze scholarship and practice of Planetary Health across the University; bring together a cohesive community of practice; and establish JHU as a global leader in addressing the global health and humanitarian dimensions of the Earth crisis. JHIPH also collaborates with the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA) which is a growing global consortium of over 480 institutions in more than 75 countries, and 3,900+ individual members, advancing Planetary Health understanding and action by convening experts; creating, gathering, and distributing educational materials; and curating, synthesizing, and disseminating evidence to inform and activate the Planetary Health community and broader society.

JHIPH is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Innovation and Implementation Program Associate to support the growing JHIPH team in building a transdisciplinary community dedicated to advancing the field of Planetary Health. The Innovation & Implementation Program Associate will work in close collaboration with Innovation & Implementation Faculty Leads, JHIPH Executive Director, and other staff in both JHIPH and PHA to manage the work-steam's projects and further administrative, financial, and operational activities on a day-to-day basis to successfully support its vision and mission. The Innovation & Implementation Program Associate will officially report to the JHIPH Sr. Administrative Manager and will primarily support the Innovation & Implementation Faculty Leads.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the planning, activation, and evaluation of the cross-University Planetary Health Innovation & Implementation Program.
  • Plan / coordinate Planetary Health awareness and education activities for Business and Engineering students, administrators, academics, and others.
  • Support the preparation and activation of Planetary Health curriculum.
  • Coordinate Innovation & Implementation projects across the University and / or with external partners.
  • Assist with writing Planetary Health Innovation & Implementation program grants and research reports; manage grant and program budgets.
  • Be the point person for the Innovation & Implementation program; respond to inquiries and requests made to the program.
  • Grow and manage global relationships and act as a representative of the Insititute.
  • Collaborate with JHIPH's Events Coordinator to plan and coordinate conference events and help to identify and secure guest speakers.
  • As appropriate, participate in writing of manuscript and literature reviews for publications, and support faculty and staff in the development of a research study design, data analysis, and processes, including IRB submissions.
  • Manage academic tracks including.
  • Coordinate Innovation & Implementation Faculty Directorsscheduling.
  • Assist with management of consultants, temporary staff, interns, practicum students.
  • Other research or administrative duties assigned.

  • The position is based in Baltimore and may also attend events at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center, 555 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington DC. The position will collaborate with our internal team and global partners to support our mission.

  • Effectively manages multiple projects, often with tight timelines.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills; also, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Limited travel is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and respond quickly to changing priorities.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Additional experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Training or prior experience in environmental research.
  • Training or prior experience in finance, development, or engineering.
  • Master's degree or higher.
  • Awareness of and aptitude to appropriately and effectively understand, respect, and adapt to cultural and identity-based differences within group environments.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to concepts and issues tied to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education / training and other qualifications.     Education and Experience Equivalency

    Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education / experience required for the respective job.
