Reports To: Executive Director of CCMR, FLSA Status: Exempt Advanced Academics & SOI

Department Assigned Minimum Duty Days: 226 Days

Primary Purpose: The Career and Technical Education Coordinator will provide districtwide leadership and support for Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs to ensure high-quality instruction, coherent Programs of Study, industry-based certification attainment, work-based learning opportunities, accurate data reporting, grant compliance, and alignment with state accountability and College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification
  • Five (5) years minimum teaching experience
  • Documented experience integrating technology into classroom instruction and/or CTE program implementation.

Preferred Requirements

  • Master Degree
  • Experience as a Career and Technical Education teacher
  • Experience with Industry Based Certifications and CTE Programs of Study
  • Experience with Career Clusters, TEA CTE Programs of Study, Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs), work-based learning, and postsecondary/workforce programs preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively and harmoniously with administrators, teachers, and other staff
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively both in written form and orally
  • Possess technical skills necessary to perform essential job requirements such as email functions, correspondence and power point presentations
  • Knowledge of TEA CTE Programs of Study, CTE TEKS, Industry-Based Certifications, CCMR accountability, PEIMS reporting, and state/federal CTE requirements
  • Knowledge of Perkins V requirements, the Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA), grant implementation, allowable expenditures, documentation, and compliance.
  • Ability to analyze CTE, PEIMS, IBC, work-based learning, enrollment, completion, and accountability data to monitor program effectiveness and guide continuous improvement.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Management

1. Assists in the development of an ongoing CTE program curricular evaluation.

2. Coordinates departmental curricular revision, rewriting, and course distribution.

3. Collaborates in administering all aspects of the secondary Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program.

4. Supports the implementation of effective instructional strategies by visiting CTE classroom teachers to observe as a liaison to the Executive Director.

5. Encourages, demonstrates, and monitors the use of technology for instruction to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching/learning process.

6. Monitors and administers all CTE software licenses and vouchers, and distributes and assigns them as necessary.

7. Coordinates Industry-Based Certification (IBC) implementation, testing, vouchers, reimbursement documentation, and district reporting; monitors student attempts, attainment, and program outcomes.

8. Assists the campus professionals with the software and its integration to the curriculum.

9. Plans, organizes, and presides over instructional meetings for CTE Department.

10. Works with CTE teachers in developing effective teaching strategies that focus on improving instruction for all students.

11. Assists teachers increase students' technology proficiencies through modeling of effective instructional strategies.

12. Collaborates in the development and presentation of training sessions for CTE Teachers.

13. Conducts staff development that is appropriate for the integration of technology into the curriculum.

14. Collaborates with CTE Teachers in an ongoing basis.

15. Supports accurate CTE PEIMS data review and submissions, including CTE indicators, contact hours, Programs of Study, Industry-Based Certifications, work-based learning, and related CTE/CCMR data elements.

16. Assists with registration and training for technology classes.

17. Assists the Executive Director with the Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA), Perkins grant planning/writing, implementation, monitoring, documentation, evaluation, and compliance.

18. Assists with monitoring Perkins and CTE expenditures to ensure purchases are reasonable, necessary, allocable, allowable, and aligned to approved program goals and grant requirements.

School Organization Climate

19. Maintains regular communication with administrators, teachers, IT technicians, and other staff.

20. Communicates regularly with Executive Director of CCMR, Advanced Academics, and Schools of Innovation.

21. Effectively interprets and implements state/local standards, policies and practices.

22. Works consistently, collaboratively, equitably, and objectively with all personnel.

23. Makes recommendations to campus staff about equipment and software needed to meet campus / district goals on technology to ensure the campus is compatible with Dual Enrollment and articulated courses with local community college.

24. Establishes and maintains a climate that demonstrates respect and dignity for all people for Laredo ISD and for all areas for which this individual is responsible.

School Organizational Improvement

25. Visits campuses to plan, monitor and demonstrate the CTE curriculum integration and instruction with technology to ensure that the district's technology plan is being met.

26. Provides direction for annual CTE assessments/evaluations.

27. Creates, maintains, and updates district CTE procedures, guidance documents, implementation tools, and program records to promote consistency and compliance across campuses.

28. Monitors progress of all students involved in the program and prepares written progress notes and updates to communicate with CTE teachers.

29. Attends campus department meetings, and meets with district and campus technology-related staff.

30. Coordinates with district staff in the design, development, implementation and evaluation on effective staff development program.

31. Trains administrators and teachers in solving minor technical problems (troubleshooting) district may have.

32. Works with administration and special committees to develop and implement CTE Curriculum.

33. Obtains and uses evaluative findings (data) to identify the needs of the district and plan accordingly and to examine program effectiveness.

34. Researches the latest technology and provides quotes for needed equipment.

35. Maintains and validates data related to CTE teacher certifications, work-based learning, Programs of Study, Industry-Based Certifications attempted and earned, IBC reimbursements, and other required CTE/CCMR reporting elements.

Personnel Management

36. Encourages the implementation of effective instructional strategies by visiting with CTE classroom teachers.

37. Provides support to CTE teachers in the assistance for attainment of any necessary updating of equipment and /or curriculum materials.

38. Encourages the use of computers and other technology in the district.

39. Provides staff development to professionals regularly on software integration and technology resource management.

Professional Growth and Development

40. Stays current on all types of technology being used to improve the teaching/learning process.

41. Assists in the revision and coordination of existing technology in CTE programs.

42. Participates actively in professional activities, shares ideas and information with other professionals, technology staff, and technicians.

43. Attends training and or professional conferences dealing with technology and successful innovative teaching strategies.

44. Attends appropriate professional development activities and up to date training sessions in effective instructional practices.

School / Community Relations

45. Ensures that the technology program is continuous and responsive to students' and community's needs.

46. Supports and implements the district and campus goals, programs, and outcomes.

47. Provides opportunities to involve community and families in education through the use of technology.

48. Assists in the planning and coordination of student internships and externships and ensuring that assignments correlate with CTE TEKS.

49. Keeps the community informed of the CTE program through a semi-annual Newsletter and continuously update the CTE Webpage.
