About the Role
We are seeking a Materials and Process Engineer to support the development, qualification, and optimization of materials and manufacturing processes used in high-reliability products. This role involves working cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, suppliers, and testing teams to ensure product performance and compliance with engineering and quality standards. The ideal candidate combines strong metallurgy knowledge with hands-on lab and manufacturing experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and support engineering requirements for materials, processes, and manufacturing technologies
  • Evaluate and qualify new materials, parts, and processes to meet technical and regulatory standards
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and failure analysis investigations
  • Support supplier qualification activities and address supplier technical inquiries
  • Conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions for material or process failures
  • Coordinate laboratory testing activities (metallography, tensile testing, hardness, NDT/NDI)
  • Compile and interpret test data for engineering evaluation and reporting
  • Develop and update material/process specifications, work instructions, and test plans
  • Investigate non-conformances and supplier deviations with supporting documentation
  • Maintain engineering records and ensure configuration control compliance
  • Communicate technical findings with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams
  • Work with manufacturing teams, supplier facilities, and testing labs; occasional travel required

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (preferably Materials Science or Engineering)
  • 5+ years (or equivalent advanced degree-based experience) in engineering roles
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing environments
  • Strong knowledge of metallurgy, including ferrous and nonferrous alloys
  • Hands-on experience with metallography and lab techniques (cutting, polishing, etching, hardness testing)
  • Experience with manufacturing processes such as machining, forging, forming, welding, or coating
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and material specifications
  • Ability to work onsite full-time

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in materials science, mechanical, metallurgical, or related engineering field
  • Deep expertise in material behavior and testing methods (fatigue, fracture, creep, stress analysis)
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes (additive manufacturing, friction stir welding, EB welding, composites)
  • Experience in high-volume production environments
  • Expertise in process-property relationships and material performance optimization
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers
