Job Description
The Mission of JWCH Institute is to improve the health status and well-being of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles Area through the direct provision or coordination of health care, health education, services, and research.
Position Description :
The Medical Assistant for JWCH is a full time position under the direct supervision of the Clinic Administrator or Clinic Designee. Within the regulatory scope of practice, the Medical Assistant will assists in the provision of direct patient care by performing routine patient care procedures and technical supportive functions. Medical Assistants at Wesley Health Care Centers work side by side with our health care teams providing care for patients in a clinical setting. As a Medical Assistant at JWCH, you will have the opportunity to grow your career while helping to improve the lives and health status of the underserved segments of the population of the greater Los Angeles area.
Principal Responsibilities :
- Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed healthcare personnel, following established clinic policies and procedures within the defined scope of education, training, and responsibilities.
- Collects and records patient data including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and peak flow measurement, according to established policies and procedures.
- Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after receiving appropriate training and verification of competency.
- Administers immunizations and medications per provider's order after a licensed healthcare professional verifies the correct medication and dosage.
- Performs venipuncture and PPD skin placements, documents the measurement of the PPD skin test, and reports this information directly to the provider or Registered Nurse.
- Applies and removes bandages and dressings.
- Provides fluoride varnish treatment to patients ages 1 month to 20 years during wellness or medical visits, following approved protocols to prevent dental caries and support preventive health efforts.
- Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Provides basic health information and education to patients following established protocols.
- Prepares examination rooms by ensuring cleanliness and stocking necessary supplies.
- Accurately documents patient information, medical history, and treatment plans in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Assists with patient education regarding medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
- Coordinates referrals to specialists and diagnostic testing as needed.
- Ensures compliance with infection control protocols and maintains a safe, clean environment.
- Assists with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, and verifying insurance information.
- Accurately files patients’ lab results, X-rays, EKG results, and other documents after provider review and sign-off.
- Participates in staff meetings, including quality improvement sessions, case conferences, and in-service training.
- Participates in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
- Performs other duties and tasks as required or assigned.
- Participate in JWCH’s customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis.
Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team discussions.
