Job Summary :

Iron Horse Terminals is seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to oversee all financial activities of the organization. The Controller will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and compliance. This position will play a key role in financial planning, risk management, and ensuring the integrity of financial data. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and experience in a multi-entity business environment.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Work directly with the Purchasing Manager and Staff Accountant to streamline accounting functions.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements to provide accurate and timely information to management.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Develop and maintain financial forecasts, budgets, and cash flow projections.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Manage and coordinate external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
  • Provide financial analysis to support business decisions and strategic planning.
  • Assist in managing banking relationships and optimizing financing structures.
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff, ensuring professional growth and efficiency.
  • Oversee financial system implementations and improvements.
  • Work closely with department heads to monitor financial performance and drive cost efficiencies.
  • Maintain and improve processes and controls associated with shop costs and inventory valuation.
  • Conduct inventory reconciliations monthly.
  • Assist in managing and supporting purchasing functions, working closely with the Purchasing Manager.
  • Support financial planning for construction projects, ensuring accurate cost accounting and reporting.
  • Prepare and maintain cash flow projections for operational and project-based financial planning.

Qualifications & Skills :

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in construction or project cost accounting is required.
  • Experience with purchasing and procurement processes is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with multi-entity and multi-state business operations is a plus.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
  • Strong Excel skills required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptable, dependable, and self-motivated.
  • Looking for someone who wants to stay local.
  • CPA certification is a plus, but not required.
